    Scam prevention suggestion

Yesterday I started a WTB thread. Within hours someone PMed with a "superb" equipment for sale, photos followed.

    "Micheal62" with zero posts.

    Suggestion to calguns:

Make new members to pay a one time $2.00 fee through Paypal. This has several benefits.

1- The payer has to show some form of ID to Paypal ( credit card, bank account) to pay.

2- The lowlife wouldnt be making new accounts in calguns left and right.

    3- It benefits calguns

While this may not be a complete solution, but no doubt it will dramatically reduce the number of scam accounts on this website.

    In person is the answer

Talking on the phone after pms

Screw texting- hey buddy, I got what you want

    Chat on the phone

If they are selling - when did they get it, where did they get it, do they still have receipts or dros?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
    (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

      Ok

Many WTB are vague or lowballers

Don't let human greed replace common sense

A Glock Gen 5 NIB in California is never $350

These are good, smarter buyers. OK

But the goal here is to make it harder to start the scam. What if they talk on the phone, and can show receipt?

What is the problem for a $2 donation for a new account?

Kes has said this will be a free site very convincingly in the past.

Maybe suggest a "X" deposit to use the Marketplace, refundable after 1 year?

          That might fly.

^^^^ Great idea to have to pay a small one time fee for access (as buyer or seller) the marketplace. making even a small payment requires the member to identify themselves...something scammers will never do.

Great idea. I'm tired of the scammers. I posted a WTB and instantly received the same...."Hey Buddy, I have what you need"....then they proceed to send me a stock photo from the internet. When I tell them I do only U.S.P.S. Money Orders...they disappear.

I agree. Its a good idea.

If Kes doesn't want the money- do a drawing of some kind and give it away to charity, a prize or one of the Pro 2A fighting attorneys.

If it was up to me, I’d say you have to either pay a fee, or be a calguns paying member, or have XX posts before you can sell. There is absolutely nothing in place to stop or even deter a scammer.

Hilarious. If it's profitable enough, they have already figured out how to make fake Paypal accounts.

The real question is; why are people so easily scammed?

I've been on the internet since it's beginning. I was one of the first 2000 members of Paypal, confirmed when they used to tell you that, along with giving you $10.00 into your account for every new member you referred. (Then later, $5.00 for each). Made a lot of money doing that.

And have never been scammed on the internet, whether Ebay, Craigslist, Amazon, here, or any other website. And no, my Itrader is 0 because I want it that way. The history of purchases are none of anybody's business.

How I conduct myself in going about a purchase speaks volumes over keeping any Itrader record.

YOU are what's in place to stop a scammer.

                        It's that simple.

How about just invest time learning scammer's traits and read hundreds of thread currently on Calguns regarding WTB scams and not to be a sucker. My friend has an 1K scope for $400, send money first, sure I'll provide tracking and don't worry you can trust me.
