LPVOs: Phasing Out?

A lot of people buy gear…. To fix a marksmanship flaw.

There is that. There are those who love gear and want the latest and greatest.

I'd be into it if I felt I actually needed the magnification. But I shoot my AR as far as I feel is viable for the 5.56 round. I'd rather have the 1-4x and save 1-1.5 pounds on the rifle, than to have a 1-8 or 1-10 to plink at 500-600 yards.

Even if it was given to me, I'd probably sell it to keep the added weight off the rifle. I've shot my 1-4x in competition to 425 yards, and plinking to 650. I've got minute of man accuracy, thats plenty for me

Yes, also... gunowners are getting older and you know what that means as far as eyesight.

i still enjoy the 1-4x since its smaller and has less visual blockage when shooting two eyed. The 1-8x and 1-10x stuff is large enough that it starts to crowd my vision

I agree that most probably this is due to people upgrading. I have a Leupold Mark AR 1-4 on a humble Nikon mount; this sits on top my 16” SPR SS Noveske NSR Gen 3 upper/Gen 2 lower scoped fighting build. I like this optic setup cuz it’s accurate to 450m and not super heavy. Probably can push past 450, too.

Follow on question: what do you guys think is the sweet spot? 1-4, 1-6, 1-8, 1-10? Me, I’m leaning towards 1-4.

Then again, I’ve only peered through 1-6s and 1-8s at LGSs, etc.

Check out SuperSetCA's reviews of these new 1-10X FFP... As others have mentioned, for 16" 556 ARs, I find SFP optics to be easier to use on LPVO.

Is x8 or x10 even considered to be low power? Always thought "low power" optic is x4 and below.

I'm in agreement with SuperSetCA (aka the guy on the video HK sent to you); unless your trying to regularly shoot targets at 500 meters or further with a .223/5.56 rifle, 1-6x is about the sweet spot for LPVO optics from close range out to 400 meters.

Currently run a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24mm on an ADM Quick-Detach mount on my mid-length AR, and the 6x makes landing hits on a 12 inch plate at 400 yards at my local outdoor range easy, while pushing it out to 500 yards typically has me landing hits a majority of the time.

However, I am seriously considering something with a little more magnification, or possibly shifting to a more conventional scope once I finish building my 6.5 Grendel rifle.
