Because they are worth MORE in CA before he leaves.
Also, the money would probably help cover moving costs.

        Thanks for all the responses.

Yeah I’m gonna sell all the “cool” stuff here. It’s only cool here because you can’t get it. I figure it’s gonna be 50-100k depending on what I decide to sell. I’ve already spoken to bruger & thomet about some cool stuff. Basically just consolidation.

I’ve spoken to a few shops today regarding consignment. Because I won’t be price gauging, the dealers offered to just buy everything and get a lump sum. I’m going to get a list together in the next week that I’ll post on here and you guys can have your pick.

I think a lot of us will be curious to see your inventory list, regardless of how you choose to dispose. There may be some here who will offer to take 5-10 in a single PPT, which will help you dispose of the aggregate number within the permitted # of transactions.

Therefore you can just dump all of it all at once. No restrictions on consigned sales I know about.
Check out Lock Stock and Barrel in Simi Valley, which sells some great stuff.

In the other hand, I had a friend just do this. Auction house had told him they’d ‘probably’ get $250k for his collection, then presented him with a nice check for $63k and said “sometimes they just don’t work out”. He’s pretty devastated and wishes he had just done the laborious sales process on his end.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

Did someone quote the federal law on selling
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Jeezz guys. It's JUST like selling cars. The state has the exact same restrictions on selling vehicles. If you sell more than 5 cars a year you're breaking the BS law. It's meant (In both scenerios) to stop people from acting as unlicensed dealers.

Guns or cars I don't care. Assuming you've owned the guns for a bit......I would NOT allow some BS law to dictate how many of my personal possessions I can sell.

I've seen several people sell large collections on here and even bought a couple from a guy liquidating he 50+ gun collection to buy a house.

                        Exactly.
So let's say the state even HAS a system setup to flag citizens that do 6+ transactions (unlikely based on all the cops that were selling off-roster guns for YEARS before the BATF looked into them).
Some desk jockey looks in the database and sees the buying and selling history of the citizen and he will see that the citizen bought them all over a long period of time and it will be obvious the guy is not dealing in guns but just liquidating a collection.
It's unlikely to even warrant a phone call.

I've always worried about this and ATF multiple handgun reports but I think they have bigger fish to fry and I've only known a few people warned about it or asked.

I've seen and done some pretty big numbers I recently saw someone DROS 40 guns in a PPT.

I also think the type of guns may matter they can see the difference between a guy buying a pile of collectible older guns and a guy buying 10 identical Glocks.

And yes the auction route is very much like gambling I do not recommend it for most people or most situations anymore. Only on very high end collectible guns and with a reserve generally or be prepared to be disappointed.

You sound like a cool guy.

You're going to get an overwhelming number of messages because of this. I once started to sell around 100 guns and quickly realized I didn't want to deal with it. I arranged for all of them to go on consignment at three different ffl's.

For your close friends maybe give them a first pick and then consign the rest.

                            Good luck,

I’m sure no one would catch it. Just don’t want to deal with any issues that could cause me to delay my exit. I truly hate this state. We are treated like scum while the scum is treated like kings.

The fact that I even have to consider not being able to sell my property is a prime example.
