Quieter gun without suppressor?

Since it appears NO ONE makes a longer 10/22 barrel that is "drop in" (that is not a bull barrel) I got to wondering if a tube on the end would make the shorter barrel quieter.

I don't think it will make the rifle quieter, per se, but it will move the blast further away from you and probably directed more forward, so it will be quieter for the shooter (which I assume is what you're interested in.)

McGowen Barrels will make a 10/22 barrel to spec. A 22", factory profiled custom barrel is under $200. Long lead time right now, though.
