    Quieter gun without suppressor?

Would it be legal to add a simple tube to the barrel?

Open. No baffles. No smaller exit port. Just a "pipe?"

I'm still having my ear problems and noticing that my LONG barrel CZ 455 Ultra Lux with 28" barrel is not a problem whereas my 10/22 is.

Since it appears NO ONE makes a longer 10/22 barrel that is "drop in" (that is not a bull barrel) I got to wondering if a tube on the end would make the shorter barrel quieter.

      Shooting subsonic ammo helps too.

Research CA legality of a "bloop tube" barrel extension. They are used to increase sight radius on competition rifles:

Email these people to ask if their bloop tubes are CA legal: http://www.medeshafirearms.com/Extension%20Tubes.htm

Urban Rifle Supply used to make 29" 10/22 barrels.

            It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

A 28 inch barrel is really long and possibly slowing the bullet. I think I saw some videos showing an 18 inch barrel burns all the power in a 22lr already, and longer barrels actually begin to slow the bullet. IF that is the case, it could just mean your 28 inch barrel just slowed the 22lr to subsonic speeds so it's quieter, while the 10/22 remains supersonic so it has the loud crack.

You could always get a lever gun and use 22 short same with a revolver

Long barrels will definitely be less impactful on the shooter's ear drums. The high school I attended over 40 years ago had an outdoor range where we shot the 28" barreled .22 target rifles that belonged to the school. No one wore any ear pro. Standing behind the firing line, or prone behind a rifle was not uncomfortable, shooting standard velocity ammo.

I have the 9422 Win and it is quieter. I'd still like to get to a quieter semi.
I saw an OLD gun magazine with a Franchi 22 semi. Looked cool.

I sure don't remember ever seeing a Franchi.

I used a simple plastic bloop tube that slid over the front of my Harrell tuner on my 40X .22. I had two versions - one with holes drilled in it and one without. They served to assist with accuracy but with subsonic .22 match ammo, they were also pretty quiet. Even in my club's underground shooting room, no one needed ear protection. High velocity .22 ammo was a different story, of course.

IIRC anything attached to the muzzle designed to quiet the report can be "construed" as a silencer. All NFA/KFC/BFD/BMW/FCC/DHS/ABC/VHS rules apply.

No baffles necessary to be a silencer.

So, a tube to extend the barrel.

The easiest thing to do would be to shoot CCI quiets but they can be difficult to get right now and have higher rate of FTE’s when compared to standard .22 ammo.

I love my 10/22’s but if I want to shoot quiet ammo, my Henry lever action rifle is rifle I’ll grab. A bolt action or pump action would work too.

I just picked up a threaded 10/22, 16.5” bull barrel. As mentioned you could attach a linear compensator.

Kaw Valley Precision Linear Comps are part of a small family of compensators aimed at taming muzzle concussion. The KVP linear comp, collects and redirects muzzle gases away from the shooter. This redirection helps reduce the perceived decibels the shooter experiences at his or her ear. By pushing excessive noise and concussion downrange, not only [...]
