What do you clean with?

Being a jarhead, I had CPL as the default cleaner. I have heard of everything from brake cleaner to lithium grease used on firearms. I do have Rem Oil, Lucas Oil, Tetra, and Hoppe's amongst others in the armory. Although I think most newer solvents work, what feedback does the CG brain trust have for both "go-to", or "Avoid".

still have some of hte last.. i got kroil and kg1 also but hanve't tried yet.

mpro smells the least. can't comment much how effective over theothers but effective enough. barrel, i use the others - hoppes,shooter's choice, etc.

Having used Hoppe’s since around 1967 I stick with what works. I still even use Rig grease and I do have some FP10 but only as a light oil application if I am out of Hoppe’s brand oil.

I’ve had really good results with the Butch’s Bore Shine but I don’t feel comfortable eating with it still on my hands like I do with CLP.

I clean with Ballistol. I will use rem oil and other oils till I run out. I am not particular with the oil I have on hand as all of them will do.

Hoppes no. 9 bore solvent.

I have always used Hoppes and Butchs Bore Shine. Recently made the switch to Bore Tech and have been very impressed!

Hoppes and sometimes Butch's. I also use Wipe Out on centerfire rifles after cleaning with Hoppes or Butch's first. If I have shot a lot of lead, I will use Hoppes, dry patch and then let some Kroil soak in the bore before brushing our the lead.

For those that think their firearm is clean using #9. You clean it then bring it to me and I will show you all that was not cleaned. I have done this a number of times for friends who did not believe me that #9 is outdated and never been wrong. This is especially true if you are going to use a copper bullet after shooting regular jacketed bullets first.

The proper order of solvents is 1st Wipe-out then Sweets 7.62 then butches bore shine.

Try Ballistol, good for all surfaces, been around for a 100 years, non toxic.

I use Hoppes for the bore but I've never liked it for actions, frames, etc. There is a residue left behind that does not evaporate. Depending on the gun, like a 1911 that's all steel I use whatever, mineral spirits, brakleen, rubbing alcohol, something I can blow out and it will completely dry before I oil it. I only lube pivots and sliding surfaces, not everything. I use a small needle oil bottle to pinpoint apply, excess oil is not good or needed. If it's a polymer frame I use something safe for plastics, NOT BRAKLEEN, it will melt or fade some plastics.
