I have a few ready for SHTF etc what ifs and the rest is shoved to the back of the cabinet. Keep adding to my 22lr stash and waiting for some common sense pricing to return for the centerfire stuff. Got enuff right now.

I shared my template a few years ago but I keep track of everything on this spreadsheet with autosum formulas or else I'd never find anything.. full boxes stay here by can number, location, caliber, etc.. I document brand, bullet type, weight, price, where I bought it, etc.. when I draw a full box from a can, I deduct it from inventory and anything left after the range goes in one of my light boxes (.mil term for open can) took some time over 10 years ago building the spreadsheet from random lists I had.. but once established it's quick and easy to maintain and an invaluable tool

I do count my number of rounds down range. Rarely am I surprised by something going ‘click’ rather than ‘boom’.

I take an inventory once a year and record how many rounds fired through each firearm.

Nope, when I buy components I buy in matching quantities. I just have to look up at my current primer inventory. +3k per size, good enough.

I need to do a spreadsheet on mine. Having moved recently I'm glad I made the decision back in August to pack up what I had vs. selling it. Even with the extra weight charge from the movers I ended up ahead.

UPDATE: Found a great free spreadsheet template went out and started opening the cabinets and decided, maybe another day.

This was inspired after a recent purchase of 3 boxes of 9mm, 1 box 45 ACP $180 I was thinking ammo has become a real commodity that might need an official exchange and spot prices

I began a spreadsheet several years ago, primarily because I had become diversified enough in terms of the calibers that I began feeling a need to better 'focus' my ammunition purchases. The idea was to be able to keep a certain level of supply for each based, in part or in whole, on the amount I was using each caliber for various purposes and how much I anticipated needing in the future.

I've done fairly well keeping up with it; i.e., the spreadsheet and the rotation of ammo. While there's always a temptation to "one can never have enough," seeing the actual numbers helps keep things in some perspective in terms of need vs. want. Unfortunately, it also serves as a reminder that priorities are, sometimes, fickle things and while I'm not truly 'short' on anything, there are pages which seem to demand to be further fleshed out, but the reasons for that are usually due to 'other' priorities taking priority and there's only so much money to go 'round, even over the long haul.

The real trick is in keeping track of where 'everything' is actually stored and that's something I don't put on the spreadsheet. Why? It would be bad enough to have a list someone could 'hack in' (ahem) and read, but it would be even worse if they were to figure out my 'code' for storage location. I mean, we don't keep all our guns in one spot, why would we keep our ammunition in one place?
