I'm thinking we are doing self-defense ammo wrong

I read on one of these forums a criminal was shot a number of times before going down. I mean a huge amount of times. One shot was said to stop an inch or more from the heart.

I'm thinking we should be using maximum penetration bullets and forget about all the expansion BS. I've used poly or Teflon coated 9mm. Nothing else I tried could compare to the penetration.

Now, I didn't use other poly coated bullets. The rest were regular ball or various expansion bullets. But their penetration was 25% to 60% of the coated 9mm.

The self-defense ammo should be going through the heart, shattering the spine and through the skull. No failure to penetrate BS. The bullets should be coming right out the other side. You shoot in one ear and it should come out the other.

That's why some counties make you take 8 hours of class for CCW.

It's really about shot placement, and good luck with that once your adrenalin kicks in. And again, in CCW class you learn to aim at the body, if you miss you don't get to pass. Now this post will be used against you when you try to defend yourself when you shoot at shadows in the middle of the night, miss and shoot the neighbor's dog, or worse....

As far as stopping power goes it doesn't matter if someone uses over penetrating ammo or expanding hollow point ammo. What matters is what the bullet hits when it enters the body. I once knew a guy who was shot six times in the back with an AK47 and lived.
I believe that using over penetrating ammo for self defense is irresponsible and, again, it will do no good unless it hits something critical. An immediate loss of blood pressure is what will stop an adversary.
If someone is concerned about stopping power I suggest they go for the headshot.

Who uses 9mm for SD? Anything less than a 50BMG is stupid to use. Personally, I prefer canister rounds out of a 10lb Parrott rifle for SD.

You can ritchey drop blood pressure, kill brain function or sever the spine. Good luck trying to do that on purpose. Larger wound channels are your best bet for the easiest option. Lowering ther blood pressure.
