The reason I posted to begin with is because I'm trying to figure out if this "ghost gun" issue is a PC scare, or is a realistic problem. I didn't know they were called 80% receivers, I'll look into that. But it's the scale of the issue that I'm wondering about. Just how bad is this? Are ghost guns really a problem, or it is all overblown?

That's what I am trying to figure out.

    thanks - Richard

Completely overblown, common low grade criminals are making ghost guns a hot topic for cops, just something they can bitch and moan about to push more gun control...scary untraceable ghost guns oohhhhhh

In reality, yes common criminals are able to use fencers to obtain the parts and then build assemble and use or sell on black market. Yes, technically prohibited persons with some creativity can build unregistered weapons, but they arent really popular from what i hear.....Heres where ecomonics comes in, the cheapest you can really source all the big scary ghost parts is around $6-700 for say the glock19 clone. Its the same price if not more than just buying an OEM glock off the shelf.

From what i hear, most serious criminals do not use ghost guns because they are more prone to failures, jams, etc. There is a reputation on the streets that they jam alot mostly from poor builders, fitment issues, wrong parts, etc...If gangster A hears that gangster B and C and G all have had sudden jams during their turf beef, you can bet they are gonna ride with factory OEM like they always have..

Ive visited friends in free states and seen some of their builds, range days the homebuilds have issues while the OEMs shoot flawless, alot of FTE or sticky slide fitment....Ive seen some go BANG than the slide get stuck and not eject casing, ive seen many slides sticking while hitting the slide release, the only good one ive seen was a buddy who spent the extra $$ and got a quality Rival slide with all rival UPK instead of the cheap KMtacticals or rockslides. Hes also put 100s of rounds through it and said it took him 3-4 range trips to work out all the kinks (his casings would eject but get caught in slide)

I do LOVE the grip of the lower, it feels so much nicer than gen3, i just wish we could be allowed to build our own lower and then use our registered upper. But like a rifle, the lower is the firearm so there is no legal way to do this except to move to a free state.
