Anyone else halted recreational shooting?

CoVid has squelched my going to the ranges.
I have gone only 2 times to a range since this started. That is because ranges were closed, too crowded, and/or the risk of CoVid.

I can rarely get out only because I have so much work lately.


I had sworn off of shooting BLM on the weekends because even 10-20 miles out, it’s just too crowded on the weekends but if everybody is out of ammo, perhaps I’ll give it another go.


As far as ammo, I’m good for a 2 term Biden administration and then some.... so long as he and Beto don’t take it all from me.

I started shooting .22LR more often a year before the shortage because it just made more sense (100-200 yard 22LR) since getting to a midrange / long range is more difficult than just going to any range to shoot 100-200. Built my Vudoo in 2019 and all my bolt rifle practice at the range has mainly been that.

I haven't fired any of my centerfire bolt rifles in all 2020. Shot my AR in a few range session but that was all just slop work (drills 10-50 yard on IPSC targets).

Even if I decided to start rec shooting centerfire rifle again, I have plenty of components to burn out a few rifle barrels in multiple cartridges.

Other than my carry guns I want to shoot every so often, I will be switching to my stash of 22LR so I can keep shooting without running through my pistol or rifle ammo. I have plenty of both but don't want to shoot it for recreation. Its been a year since I took out my 10/22 so it will be good.

Pre COVID I hadn't shot much since our son was born a couple years ago. Since COVID I've been doing more combat training courses.

Bought up 5 buckets of Remington 22lr. Nearly 7,000 rounds and been shooting about 500 rounds a session. Using my GSG 1911 and AR22. Occasionally shoot 38special with Ruger or Smith Revolvers. Hardly used any 9mm. Stock or 223 and 7.62 has been untouched.

Been going weekly to my range when possible. Now due to ammo shortage, I am mainly by myself isolated by a few bays since the range only has oddball calibers available. Lets me have more fun with the 12ga slugs since I don't have to worry about scaring newcomers. I reload 9mm, 12ga slugs, and .223 so I've been without much issues so far

Still go to the range two to three times a month; only major change for me is my .223/5.56 rifles and revolvers have been put on the backburner because I'd rather not burn through my .223 pile and my .38/.357 Magnum pile is unfortunately empty now.

Most of the time on a range trip I just bring .22 LR, 9mm for practicing controlled pairs with my carry pistols, and rotating through my litany of mil-surps in exotic calibers that I can both reload and still somehow find on the shelf at local gun shops, since nobody seems to be demanding foreign calibers like 7x57mm Mauser or 6.5x50mm Japanese.

Still, it is funny to see the look of surprise on some folks faces when I manage to walk out of the shop with a couple hundred rounds of 9mm ammo and letting the employee's be the ones to explain to folks in line that 9x18mm Makarov doesn't work in their 9x19mm handguns.

I haven't been out for about a year. The price of ammo and the availability of it has basically ended any recreational shooting that I do. Now it's all for just in case. Any training I do is with air rifles

I use more paper targets now as they are now much cheaper than ammo, and it helps to make the most of each shot as you can track each one better.

A few months ago started working 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week so not much time for anything non-essential.

I go 2 or 3 times a month. I reload, NOTHING has changed.
