My friend and I would go to all the gun shows in So Cal in the 80s. He had a .223 Norinco AK. He always brought 2 grocery bags and filled them with the $5 Chinese .223 mags. Had about 250.

Because magazines are expendable items. A majority of the time the first part that's going to break on you in a quality firearm is the magazine, therefore it's usually a smart idea to have spares.

How many you deem prudent to own depends on how available the magazines are and how many firearms accept them.

For example, I doubt I would want to own more than five magazines for a Luger pistol because chances are the only time I'm ever going to shoot it is at a public range, the magazines are expensive, and maybe one company actually produces magazines for them anymore.

In comparison, AR magazines or Glock magazines I don't mind buying a couple at a time and keeping a .50-caliber ammo can full of them because they're plentiful, relatively cheap, and I own commonly used firearms/multiple firearms that accept such magazines. While I don't think I'll make it to 100, I wouldn't be surprised if between my 20 and 30 round magazines I have at least 30 magazines to cover 2.5 AR rifles and a dozen magazines for every handgun I own that accepts 11+ rounds in a magazine.

If one of them breaks or malfunctions to the point of not even making a useful range mag I can just strip it for parts, throw what's left in the trash, and pull another one out of the pile and I'm back in business, which is a peace of mind I certainly enjoy considering I can currently not have to immediately worry about showing up to a gun shop in my area and getting told I can't buy magazines over X capacity due to some asinine state or federal law without going to jail.

Rifles are getting harder to get. Mags are going to get even harder. get as many as you can, you may not be able to later. They don't function without mags.

Rifles are not functioning without magazines. I would get as many as I possibly can. When things go bad, they'll probably be as good as currency.

You can only carry so many, especially if you are a larping SHTF type. 4 per firearm is my par as in a chest carrier you cant carry 30 magpuls and be nimble enough to not become a loot pinata for the enemy.

The Alamo was not held, with 4 mags per rifle...

Hey OP, you only need one testicle... but I guess I shouldnt assume you have any considering a thread like this.

Lot of threads like these lately. I think its from the weakminded trying to justify in their heads, the extreme gun control that is coming.

Why do people have large homes, lots of shoes, fast cars...? Who cares?

The simple fact is, the more guns, ammo, magazines, parts, accessories, etc... that is in circulation, the harder it will be to take away our 2A rights. Thats the bottom line. The only silver lining to the current market of high demand and high prices.
