Exactly, the fundamental problem is you've taken the geometry of an M1911 mag. Whose dimensions and interior volume were for 45 ACP. You've then driven the proverbial round peg into a square hole to get the shorter, smaller diameter 9mm round to feed reliably inside of the artificially large interior dimensions on an M1911 mag. Wilson does this by inserting plastic shims. Others accomplish this by rolling/stamping insets into the short, or long face of a conventional m1911 clip.

That doesn't make it any less irritating or frustrating for our OP.

I have a half dozen Wilson 9mm ETM mags. I've never found them difficult to unload but this can be a subjective thing. And mine are several years old so maybe they've put heavier springs in the newer models or something.

I've never heard of anyone in my life complaining about a 1911 magazine. I can buy them from you for $1! I have 4 1911s. I've never seen a plastic follower before. But if the gun shoots and send functions well, all is well.

Maybe do a search over at 1911 addicts or 1911 forum. EVERYTHING 1911 related has been discussed and debated to death on those forums. Wilson followers have been discussed before. I try not to go to those forums as much as I used to, the wallet took severe hits due to those evil forums.

Send us your old 1911 magazine(s) from ANY maker, and for each one you send, you can upgrade to a brand new Ed Brown Performance Mag for as little as $10.

The Wilson ETM mags are even the same price as the 47D, so there is no reason to buy new 47D mags.

Just because something is "difficult" doesn't mean something is wrong..

For .45 mags, I convert 7 rounders to 8 cause 8 is better than 7, with the Wilson Combat spring and follower and use them. They work, no reason to not use them.

For 9mm, I sell the 9 round mags and use Metalform 10 round mags, cause 10 is better than 9, and Metalform mags work.

For .40 S&W, I use Tripp Research 9 round mags, cause 9 is better than 8, and they work. Got a few Checkmate and others, but almost always had to upgrade the springs and followers to Tripp in .40 S&W mags, so I don't waste my time on anything but Trip for .r0 mags.

Wilsons are the gold standard of 1911 magazine, everyone knows that.

Why are you needing or wanting to unload mags by hand?

If you need empty mags, buy some to keep empty.

Otherwise, all mags should be kept full at all times, otherwise your gun is an expensive paperweight. If nothng else, it makes range days more convenient to show up with a bunch of loaded mags, so you don't have to waste time loading up at the range.

Get out & shoot the mags & break them in a bit.

Why would anyone want to have any empty mags in today's world??

I'm looking for 1911 9mm mags. Who wins? I have Wilsons for my .45 and like those.
