Even just carrying a mag in your pocket for your carry gun can get some dirt and lint in there. I like to use WD40 dry lube to clean out the insides of mag bodies.

From a practical standpoint, if you just push the plate off with force after depressing the spring, the plastic will wear and make it easier to push off next time. Glock PMAGs are easy, though I still use OEM for carry.

the Mag tool they sell to pry the base plate off still forces it off causing wear , gouges , after several removals the lugs and the hole would get damage just from regular maintenance

the C clamp method is the only way to remove them without damaging it

I accidentally put the spring base on backwards, and then installed the floor plate. That was fun time trying to get the floor plate off.

Yes, they are a pain to take apart.
Actually you must push the locking plate down first (way down), before squeezing the sides. The locking plate keeps the sides from being squeezed if it is in the normal position (see pics below).

The reason CA mags are so hard to get apart is because the locking plates cannot be pushed down far enough to allow the sides to be squeezed, because the 10rd mags have reduced body volume inside.

Any CA mags I have get modified locking plates, so the mags can be squeezed never the less. Just dremel a crescent shape into the sides of the locking plate.

I've never really had a problem with this. For that matter, maybe it's because most all of my Glock magazines are early versions (i.e. high-capacity mags) and the base plate comes off with minimal effort - (as are also my Glocks, most all Gen 1 and Gen 2).

For that matter, try removing the base-plate on a FN Five-seveN. You think you are damned-near going to break the thing in the process; lots of inertia and blunt force required just to get it to budge.

What works is using a vice. Set the jaws about the distance of the base. Then as you depress the release button. Knock it off with your hand.

You people are nuts. The same tool you use to take down the glock will pop the baseplate off in about a half a second. Stick it in and move to the side. Baseplate pops off. Don't use a c clamp, that's silly.

Why are they so different?? How many other handgun mags are made primarily out of plastic/polymer, that should explain it.

And those plastic/polymer mags are about the most durable and reliable mags there are. Very few if any other handgun mag can take the abuse a Glock mag can, the reason that mag base is so hard to remove is the same reason you can drop a fully loaded Glock mag on concrete and not have it come apart. Instead of complaining about it, you should be thankful for it.

the thing you're doing wrong is NOT buying their special accessory tool to do it

in my case i just bought the Glock - heard some gritty noise loading up one of my mags and decided to pop the baseplate off and clean it inside - that's when i discovered a whole new world just to remove it

as some have stated though, mags do get dropped and can get dirty - i do a lot of shooting at the back end of the Dry Lake out here and mags do end up in the dirt

Tape a short stack of 2-3 pennies on each side of the mag
just below the plate, put em in a vice...it works

Mine get debris inside and need to be occasionally cleaned from being dropped on the range when doing magazine changes.

I need a tool to take apart the CA 10-rd magazines; for the standard capacity ones - the punch just works fine. Albeit, a little more effort and/or finesse...
