How long did your Special Order take?

I didn't know we could special order handguns here in california. Wouldnt we have to order the regular production california models and wait until sig is making that particular model?
IIRC pre panic there were certain times of the year that sig would make california models. I remember months passing between seeing sig p229ee and then they would be everywhere for ahwile. It's cyclical, not special order. Please correct me if im wrong here.Last edited by pythonfan; 10-12-2020, 2:55 PM.Comment

I think by special order he means that the LGS is OOS and he "special ordered" the CA compliant gun from them.I didn't know we could special order handguns here in california. Wouldnt we have to order the regular production california models and wait until sig is making that particular model?

Sent from my motorola one action using TapatalkYes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Pre covid manufacturers were making california handguns only at certain times of the year. So with that logic it could be 1 week, 12 weeks, 6 months, 11 months and 25 days, or any time in between for a specific model. That method works in a normal situation because they make x amount knowing it will take 8+ months to sell off all of that specific model.
Has covid changed that? When guns across America are selling as fast as they can be produced and only a small fraction are california compliant, are they making small batches throughout the year, or just business as usual? Probably business as usual.
I'm not trying to be pessimistic to the OP but my thought is it is difficult to guage a turn around time on a back order for a specific model.
My rationale is that the shop doesn't put in the order to the distributor, and in turn the distributor places the order to sig, and they change tooling once they have enough orders. I would think that once it get to that place in sigs regular schedule to produce that model, they make a ton and the OPs order gets filled. Like said before, it could be a week, a month, or 11 months.
I do wish you a speedy turn around, but dont get too excited. If you had been a buyer in February, you would have had your pick of the litter. Just would have had to knock the dust off of the sig p229ee.
Great gun, I own one, but it wasn't a huge seller in normal times, due to its cost brand new. A year ago if you were selling one on the used market, you would take a bath. I missed an opportunity to buy one used for $750 due to it being a bit too far for transfer. It sat for a couple months before selling.Last edited by pythonfan; 10-12-2020, 9:38 PM.Comment

I have ordered two custom builds, one for a Wilson Combat CQB and the other from Standard Mfg for a single action revolver. Both took 8 weeks from date of order to shipping._______________
