    BassCliff's little XD9 story

    Hi!

I'm a new handgun owner. It's been decades since there were firearms in the house but now that we're all of legal age we are all taking training.

I ordered my XD9 4" Service Model on August 1st, not a special order but a back order, from my local Turner's Outdoorsman. I actually had my sights set on a Glock 17 but was disappointed when I found out nothing after Gen 3 was available for us mere mortals. The salesman put the two side by side and I actually liked the XD better all the way around, grip, feel, features, etc. Sold!

My pistol arrived at the store on September 7th. I went in on Sept. 8th to fill out all the background check paperwork and came back ten days later to pick it up on September 18th.

I thought that wasn't too bad of a wait considering I was told that Springfield Armory orders were anywhere from ten to fourteen weeks lead time. Yay me!

I'd like to buy a couple more ASAP. I also want a 22 for cheap training purposes and a 45 (just because). But I'm going to wait for the rest of the family to get their own pistols first.

It's a bit crazy living in this state. Ammo is limited and hard to find. But I'm thankful that I'm able to exercise my 2A rights as much as I can. I hope people learn how to vote soon.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

I ordered a Colt 6920 Magpul edition. This was a few years ago. It took 5 months for it to show up. This was at Tracy Rifle. Then I bought it and it's still sitting in the box.....

In CA, a simple pawn shop transfer feels like a special order. Just found a Ruger Super Redhawk in rare Target Grey in Montana that will ship to CA. CA LGS won't take it cause the grip doesn't match current production nor would they take the scope already mounted... Had to go to another LGS, their fees are higher and is a much smaller operation. 1st CC didn't go through to Montana, second did. Now they have to play the FFL transfer phone tag game. Hopefully it gets here in a few days so I can finish the jailing process before the election.

Ordered a Kimber K6s DA/SA late February of this year, LGS says no Kimber shipments since the Rona shutdown.

Whether you call it special order or back order four of the last five guns I bought (two rifles, two revolvers) were ordered because my local did not have what I wanted. They checked their warehouse first and then their regular distributors. Each time the guns arrived well within the thirty days between purchase time period.
The guns I'm currently interested in are not what you would call high demand so I don't ever expect to wait several months for a gun to arrive.

I purchased a made to order Service Rifle upper from White Oak Armament in May. It finally arrived in September.

Back in April I ordered a set of Dueck Defense offset sights for one of my ARs. No one had it in stock so I decided to back order it.

I totally forgot about it until a couple weeks ago when they contacted me to confirm I still wanted it. So 6 months for a set of iron sights, but it's what I wanted.
