Deleting prices

I really hate it when people do this.

It seems to be a very common occurence in many online forums, social media posts, etc

For CalGuns where we can control it, I'd appreciate a rule being made to disallow people deleting the actual sales price.

Otherwise how the heck are we supposed to get any idea whatsoever of market prices for anything??

It annoys the crap out of me when people delete the sales price.

How do you feel about a rule like this...

"Do not delete ad text, including prices, or subject lines. Doing so may result in a temporary suspension from the site. Leaving the subject lines and prices intact allows others to search items out and gauge current market value."

Searching gunbroker is a good place for researching prices

I usually delete everything I sold off to keep it clutter free. I don’t get why anybody would whine about deleting sold items as being “selfish”. It’s their post, their privacy concerns.

I'm not sure about making it a rule, but leaving the item name and sale price would go a long way to helping determine fair market value of an item. I have no issue with people deleting pics though.

Gunbroker doesn't reflect the reality if living in CA.

When I'm interested in something I'll peruse the marketplace to gauge the asking price for an item and see if I'm willing to pony up that sort of money or if I happen to have that sort of money in hand. If all the sold items have their price deleted I can no longer get an accurate gauge of what people were asking for that item (unless it's SUPER common and there are 3 or 4 active non-sold items in the marketplace at that time).

When an item is sold, I will change to subject line to SOLD and the body of the add gets SOLD as well with no other info. Why? Because I don't need anyone to see what is bought and sold by me and when looking at my adds, I can quickly see what is still trying to sell.
Its not my job to do YOUR homework.

News Flash - once you publish it is no longer private but in the public domain. So, the privacy ship has sailed.

The fact that this forum allows you to self edit doesn't mean you own the data or the compilation. Most likely you can delete at the sufferance of the ownership of the forum, which speaks to the character of the forum. The fact that you do delete speaks to your character.

This practice surely makes buying and selling on the marketplace more difficult, but to each their own. If you want to leave your price after a sale, feel free! Others, as of now, can do as they wish.

I'll often remove price and put SOLD in it's place to discourage anyone from messaging me asking if it's still available.

If the forum rules indicate we have to leave price up, then I will.

Note: As someone already mentioned, the list price doesn't necessary indicate the actual sell price. This is a gun forum after all, so everyone is lowballing everyone and I'll admit I sold stuff below my list price because I was just tired of back and forth negotiations.

Furthermore, what does it matter what someone else sold something for. If you have a price you want, then list it at that price. If it happens to be less than what you could have gotten for it, should that matter if you were content with your list price?
