Multi-Gun PPT: Too Much Paperwork??

Man, sorry you guys got the stiff arm at J&R. I got my first 10/22 and LAR Grizzly lowers there back in 2008 and the original owner Randy (RIP) was a real great guy who took the time to show me the ropes and chit chat. Steve was and still is a party pooper (that lower's a felony!). They used to be super efficient and business-like about PPT's, but I started getting the PPT cold shoulder last year after doing business with them over 10+ years.
Dom's has become my go-to, and did my last transfer in March right before the SHTF. I've been taking a break from even looking at the Rifles/Handguns for sale since I've heard all the PPT horror stories.Comment

Hey all just want to give you a little insight from the other side of the counter. I'm one of the people that has to do the ppt at an FFL and honestly from the employee and shop owners perspective, no one wants to do ppt's. it's not because we don't respect people trying to do the right thing. It simply a lot more difficult and time consuming to do than a direct sale, (which already takes a long time as it is) but also the shop only makes $10 for doing it and it can take up to 45 mins for a single ppt.
From the shop owner perspective you could imagine that having an employee tied up for close to an hour to make $10 when you pay them $15-$16/hr doesn't make a whole lot of financial sense right?
From an employee perspective, everyone dress having to be the one to do the ppt for a few reasons. 1 unlike selling a gun that's already in the store sales system we have to manually type in the guns: make, model, type, action type, sieral number, and caliber information. Then we need to also enter in the selling parties full name, address and phone number. Most of us are not the best typers so we are two finger typing this in. 2 We have to verify that both parties have all the correct documentation up front, if both people have a valid DL with the current address on it then not too much trouble but if an address is not current then we need gov. Issued doc to correct this usually becomes a long back and forth about what is acceptable and then why the person can't use their expired car reg. or a receipt from mechanic, or the cell phone bill. If we do have an accepted document, more two finger typing to change address on dros for one or both parties.3 if the employee misses that an I'd has expired or will expire prior to pick-up or missed getting a signature on one the many forms, or the buyer didn't put his middle name on 4473 but it's on the birth certificate that accompanied their federal limits apply ID because "I never use my middle name, it's not even on my DL" then when the file are looked over by a compliance officer the employee has to get written up for making mistakes and also contact the buyer or seller or both to come make corrections. Nobody is happy when that happens.
So these are just some of the reasons why ppt's aren't exactly something anyone at your local FFL is excited to do. That being said it's part of the job and we will do them. I honestly try my best to be very helpful to anyone who comes to do a ppt but it's very nerve racking because i want to be thoughtful of the time it takes, both for the two parties doing the transfer and to my employer who's paying me. Hope this helps you have a different view from the other side of the same coin. I kinda look at it like
Going to the DMV, you don't want to be there, they don't want to be there, but we do what we gotta do, "cuz laws and stuff"Comment
