Asking for a friend.....seriously. What is the easiest semi auto slide to rack? M'boy is weighs a buck-10 after dinner. Not a lot of grip strength. Really into shooting. When he handles my firearms (Shield, SP-01), he has a tough time with the slide. I think if someone was evaluating him handling a firearm from a safety standpoint he'd fail because he struggles with the slide. He's got his mind set on a Glock. But I want to steer him in the direction of a firearm he can safely manipulate. I can guarantee hes not interested in a revolver. Any suggestions?

Next time you're watching tv, hand him a safe'd gun you think is easy to rack, and let him rack it a few hundred times. He'll figure it out.
Example, I had a few glocks with the super slick finish, vs. glocks with the drier flat finish which were way better.Comment

Look into a Walther CCP M2. Easy to rack is one of it's claims to fame
Gonna cost him some bucks though, and they don't come up for sale oftenComment

well if it's difficult to rack, you're more likely to apply poor technique (such as letting your finger slip onto the trigger) as you're focus is distracted. Especially for a young person. Also more likely to muzzle yourself. Might be learning a better technique is all that's needed. I do the hand-over rear with my thumb pointing toward me, and instead of pulling the slide I equally pull the slide and push the frame. Also keeps the gun "upright" instead of tilting it sideways. Whole-hand grip is stronger than the thumb-forefinger pinch-and-pull.Comment

My CZ p-01 is pretty silky smooth and is DA/SA. And he's a teenager? Given enough time, his grip and wrist strength will increase....Comment

Buy a revolver.....
But if you need to go semi auto pistol, its easier if the hammer is cocked first.Comment

Feel like my 2011 is the easiest slide to rack out of all my handguns, but it has a lighter spring than it comes with from the factory. Point being, there's always the option of lower power recoil springs, although that comes at a cost of more felt recoil.
Maybe a full-size something in .380 ACP? Not much felt recoil in a .380 so I doubt most come with anything too crazy as far as recoil springs go.
I've never really had an issue racking any slide aside from a Hi Point C9 (those are pretty damn hefty) but I don't want to just make any generalization about technique and strength. That said, if nubs can do it, I'm sure your friend can do it. (Search Instagram for nubgunner if you don't know who nubs is, but note that images of his hands are probably NSFW for several work environments.)Last edited by LateBraking; 08-21-2020, 6:31 PM.sigpic
