no need to harp on wtb thread starters. if no one is in interested in selling at that price, then move on.
would be easier if wtb poster says "looking for x, no more than $y" instead of i'm looking for x, come at me with your offers like a RFQComment

I'd love a gen 5 Glock MOS. Do I expect someone to sell it to me for actual retail cost? No. Scamdemic or not, that isn't market value for that gun in CA. Were those charging $1400 for VP9s before the pandemic opportunists?
As much as I'd love many off-roster guns, they are not worth the premiums to me... but many people feel differently, as we can see. They set the market value.
If I ran a WTB ad for a gen 5 G19 right now, but said "won't pay off-roster or pandemic premiums" how successful do you think I'd be?Comment

Those people are just gonna have to wait until next year to buy their gun, if they don’t want to pay today’s prices..."To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them" - Richard Henry Lee

The CalGuns marketplace is its own micro economy. People from out of state probably think we are nuts. People are paying double $$ for on roster guns and they do it willingly.Comment

I won't contact a seller if I'm not willing to pay what they are asking. Seems a waste of time. If I'm looking to buy something, I'll usually say what grade I'm looking for. If I want a shooter, I'm not going to want a NIB 60's Python. If I'm collecting, well, no bargains in collectorville usually.Comment

Supply & demand exists, but the definitions need to be fine tuned. Demand is not just someone who wants something, but is willing & capable of paying for it at current prices. A 14 y.o. lusting after a Ferrari is not demand, otherwise demand for supercars would be in the millions. But we all know true demand is hardly that high. Likewise someone who will only pay $400 for a Glock 17 right now is not demand. Demand is someone who will pay $700 for it, thus why the premium exists. And there certainly are people who are paying that, so trying to deny the premium exists is kinda flat-earth.Hey guys,
As I peruse some of the posts, many members are looking for certain guns but mention they will not pay “Covid premium”. Not saying that they should, but doesn’t this tie into supply not meeting demand, hence no premium exists, in the case for on roster guns and prices are adjusting accordingly?
Just something I’ve observed to the flip side of some of the “why so expensive” threads a while back.
What say you...
Similarly, I have a Glock 17 but I'm not willing to sell it, so I'm not supply. But if the prices go up to $800, certainly I'll put it up for sale & then I will become supply. If the demand gets that frothy, then I will meet it. I'm just 1 data point, but in aggregate many people will behave the same way, and will tamp down how high prices can go.Last edited by kcheung2; 07-17-2020, 2:35 PM.---------------------

I've been trying to buy a brand new Silverado for years but I'm not willing to pay more than $1000.00. For some reason I'm still driving my 14 year old Colorado, can't imagine why.Calguns.net, where everyone responding to your post is a Navy Force Delta Recon 6 Sniperator.Comment

Agreed 100%. I would would never be willing to pay the off-roster premium, let alone the off-roster + pandemic premium.
Asking $2000 for a $500 gun is absurd. But so is asking to pay $500 for a market value of $1000. Two opposing extremes.
Right now I've got a great opportunity to sell some guns for nearly twice whatv I paid for them. While the thought is tempting, i think its morally disgusting. I'm with BP on that one.iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.Comment

Ugh, if I had a dime for every Bump in every sales ad because the person couldn't figure out he set his price too high...I could finance the next Space-X launch.
It is what it is. Covid premium is pretty cute though. Lol"I kill things for a living, don't make yourself one of them"Comment

No, market value is a lie. trying to extort money from other people up to double or triple the original price is more like theft. When people sell cases of water during a hurricane for $100. This is absolutely no different. Anytime there's any kind of a markup on anything, I will walk away. I wouldn't pay a markup for anything. I can live without it.
When people try to sell firearms for massive markups, that is generally indicative of a person that would take advantage of someone else at every opportunity.sigpic

I won't pay markups out of principle.
...Unless you have my Magpul stock in black! Then ignore my above comment and PM me right away. But besides that, no markups.iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.Comment
