I almost did, 'til I got a killer deal on a complete Troy upper from Primary Arms with a keymod rail. The Tide Pod kidz inspired me at the time, and it was on-sale.

On some applications, like Robinson XCR/XCR-M, the keymod provides a narrower profile and lighter weight than Mlok version. Since my rail needs are minimal I went with the Keymod.

WRONG. Magpul designed m-lok and made it open source. One of the big reasons it won.

You are right. I mis-spoke regarding the licensing about MLok. I read that Magpul patented it so I assumed that they were licensing it.

Hey my keymod ar shoots just as good as my mlok...
But I still wish I would have went with mlok on my first build, I didn't see or hear about the military trial on them, so when I seen keymod and some uptalk about it I figured it was better.
Mlok looks better and smoother than keymod.

I still have a pic rail on my secondary rifle. I would go with picatinny before keymod, but I never had an issue with keymod.

My main reason for ditching the quad rail was to shed the weight. I removed my DDM4 quad rail and swapped it out for a BCM KMR magnesium. No regrets and haven't had the urge to "upgrade" to MLok.

M-LOK has"free" licensing. Prospective manufacturers do have to sign an agreement with Magpul.

Haven't bought or assembled AR for the last few years, so I'm stuck with Picatinny Quad Rail on DD and KeyMod on Noveske. I am still happy with them.

I guess the new thing is M-Lok, however, not going to spend tons of money just to attach a sling and a light or just to look cool like mall ninja AR.

Nothing wrong with either, mlok just has more stuff.
