Glock rusted bad, slide stuck. Pic!

Buddy of mine called me with this issue. Been in storage two years in a cloth zip up pistol bag in a safe.

He said a few exposed to the air shotgun shells also had some rust.

I was surprised how bad it was. WTF!????

Never saw anything that bad from simple home storage for a few years. He is far from the coast.

Advised to get the moisture of the safe under control with the usual methods.

Slide will not budge. He tried lube and thumping on the slide with a soft mallet and see if it would budge but it would not.

Told him soak in CLP overnight with gun upside down.

    Ideas?

Buy a new barrel and an upper kit, replacing everything in the slide. Also take a look at the trigger might need a new one.

Clp or penetrating oil should help. Another option might be a ultrasonic bath.

Never store in closed up gun cases. Should have slopped with CLP and placed in a zip lock if he had to long store. Otherwise, its best to pull out every month or so and go over with an oil rag.
The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

That is total abuse of a firearm.

He should sell what he's got.

              Two years in a safe?

Kroil might be better than just CLP for soaking. But that's just to get it apart. If the insides look anything like that front - that upper is probably a loss, and possibly the lower too if the little rails on the receiver are similar. That's just awful.

Eezox and Golden Rod to prevent this from happening.

This is just a wild guess but is it possible that he had one of those chemical based plastic buckets filled with a substance that is meant to dehumidify?
I ask because those plastic buckets and the chemicals in them are the cheapest possible thing China can make and claim it's a dehumidifier. Very often they accumulate the moisture from the air into the bottom of the bucket which eventually breaks or leaks and the chemical solution (that appears as just water) causes extreme damage sometimes to certain materials.

We don't know what's inside yet. He has to get it apart first.

                              Thanks, on the Kroil.

I'm making a list of ideas for him if the CLP soak fails.

Anyone think thumping on the front corner of the slide is a problem avoiding the barrel?
