This sometimes happens at my shop (no not guns but same scenario) I tell people that want me to buy there stuff right off the bat Im only gonna offer 75% off MSRP, im honest im in it to make money and they should try private party first they can get more. Sometimes my other customers hear it and offer more and I encourage the sale cause they will be coming back to me to buy things\parts for the item they buy/sell. I think gun stores or any other stores that lowball customers and then get mad if they get poached should eat a bag of pickles

Aren't these two different things?
One is the transfer of a firearm between two private individuals. The LGS is just responsible for providing the system to DROS the firearm and a safe storage location while it is in jail. The cost of the firearm goes directly between the buyer and seller while the LGS gets the PPT fee.
While the other is about selling on consignment? Even if it were processed as a PPT, the LGS will give a smaller chunk back to the seller and keep the "rest" as a commission for introducing the buyer and seller?
Consignment Fees - Since the gun consignment shop is doing work to bring your gun to a new owner, they receive a portion of the sale price. This consignment fee is not paid until the firearm is sold. There should be no upfront costs to firearm consignment. However, consignment fees can range from 15-25%. Make sure you know what the consignment fee is and why. A lower fee is not always better – it may mean you get a lower price for your firearm or it takes longer to sell since the shop does not intend to work hard to sell it. Alternately, a high fee is not always better. It may simply mean the shop wants more money. Make sure you know whether the fee is fair for the work that’s being done.

I was actually thinking about this a few days ago. How many guns do they have to sell every day to pay the salaries of the workers? There are usually 2-3 employees in my favorite LGS, they'd have to sell guns like hot cakes to break even with rent and all expenses. I think they must be doing tons of transfers because their gun case isn't filled with 1000 guns.Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty.

If I’m reading it correctly total fees are $37.19 and the store still only allowed to charge $10 for a PPT. The store is loosing money on a PPT if there’s no add on sale and the people get chatty and drag out the process. If you never leave your first childhood, they'll never know when you've entered your second.Comment

They're not making money on the acutal transfer.....they make more selling a used gun then a new one. If done correctly. Same with used cars sometimes.Comment

Ok I understand now, and with that, I do have some level of sympathy.
But what's stopping from someone posting on gunbroker or armslists? and then just meeting at the LGS to do the PPT?
I suppose its an honor system, not much can be done about it. Unless the store offers a decent buy back rate.Comment

None. That is how the CalGuns Marketplace works.Ok I understand now, and with that, I do have some level of sympathy.

Seller and buyer agree to meet in an LGS and do a PPT. LGS know about it, etc. It is part of doing business as an FFL.

how the hack you lose money on doing PPT. the employees are being paid hourly, and the space in the safe is a one time investment.
10 dollars are still money, unless everyone is as busy as the cashiers in dollar storesComment

Nothing wrong with that, since the deal was found/made off premises.
Sadly my last PPT, the shop had nothing in stock to add on to my sale and didn’t recommend to order me anything. I’ll have to find some other way to express my gratitude. If you never leave your first childhood, they'll never know when you've entered your second.Comment

So if I go to a shop just to do a PPT, or if I buy a gun online and have it shipped there, they make no money on the transfer?
Gosh, I feel a little guilty now.Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty.
