    Forgive me can someone explain....

I live in CA, I went to a local gun store because i wanted to buy a Taurus (I'm new to this and didnt know they don't sell them in cali) the store worker told me to come to this site to find it.

But I'm confused it says on this forum that "NO"we cannot buy a gun from out of state, but then says only if transferred by CA FFL or something (which I have no clue what that is), anyways I'm trying purchase that gun either off here or drive to Nevada, if its possible to buy but can someone please explain.

    Thanks

You cannot buy a new one in a gun store because it’s not on the California Roster which you can find by googling Ca DOJ roster.

You also can’t drive to Nevada to buy one. Legally you’re only way to get a off roster gun is through a private party transfer PPT from someone who already has one in this state and is not prohibited to sell to a non exempt person (lot of threads on the subject use the CG search engine).

Look in the CG marketplace under handgun sales and search the forum for the Taurus model you want. If you’re lucky someone has one. If not someone most likely will eventually.

What model are you looking for? I believe there are still a couple Taurus revolvers on the roster.

Oh ok so "legally" I get it now.

But I'm looking for a small carry size gun, like a g2c or tx22

As said above, unless someone already owns it in this state, then you can buy it from them and conduct a private party transfer (PPT) at a dealer face-to-face.

        Those models may behttps://www.oag.ca.gov/firearms/cert...ch?make=150995

          ^^^ If successful.
Just curious on where people get the idea that you can just buy a gun out of State.
Good luck with your search OP

I'm just politely suggesting that you do a lot of research into the particular model and maker of the gun you plan to purchase. Taurus has had quality control issues in the past and although I think they've been working the best on it I've still seen recent YouTube videos on certain models not functioning that well. It could be just the One Bad Apple type of thing but since this is your first gun you want it to go right and work correctly. And although this is just my personal opinion I think the first gun you buy should be brand new and then once you learn about them you can explore the used Market with more knowledge.

That all said you might consider spending a little bit more money and getting a name brand that has a better reputation, although of course nothing is guaranteed in life, like a Glock, Smith & Wesson, Beretta, H&K, Sig Sauer ...etc.

That way you don't have to wait around looking for the exact Taurus model you want in the meantime. If you buy a quality handgun you'll always be able to sell it for roughly around what you purchased it for and even if you lose a few bucks you'll have learned a lot and had a firearm when you needed one.

But I'm not trying to change your mind if that's what your heart is set on. Feel free to post a want to buy add in the want to buy subsection of the Calguns forum here.

            Good luck!

Through PPT where seller may not check ID (unlikely but who knows). But doesn’t matter, I just remember Nevada has to go through FFL now. So that is moot.

Well I was offered a gun a while ago from a guy from Kentucky (ended up getting scammed but that's neither here nor there) but he explained that I just will need to transfer it to here when I get it, clearly I can't believe him but wanted to make sure that was complete bs, also had people here said to just go to a gun store in vegas and get one so I was confused on how to do this and who to buy from.

Spend some time here and read up.
Many non-FTF sales are intended to remove you from your money.

In the meantime, depending on your patience your WTB ad might get a hit.
Bump the ad daily (not more) to get it viewed.

Personally, I suggest you get something else like sealocan says, but go for what you want if you know you like Taurus.

If you are open to other suggestions, post up a thread here under "General Gun Discussions", tell us what you want in a gun and why.
You will give us bored gunslingers something to talk about and raise some lively discussion while pointing out similar guns and "arguing" with each other whether Glocks are good or bad.

(This is a joke, at least for now: Assuming you are not a DOJ plant.)

                    OP:

Do you have any children or parents that live in another state that like you enough to gift a gun to you?

Lol yes I do. Didnt know that was an option. How is that different than receiving a gun from a regular non family member out of state?

Btw I like glocks i have one but not a fanboy, i did my research on the Taurus and found it to be a great option and not much different from a glock. Although I'm going to still keep my glock, but I look at glock like apple it's just a name and expensive not the best (I hate iphones)

California law allows direct children or parents to gift off roster guns that are otherwise CA legal. (10 round mags., max., etc.)
                        Not uncles/aunts/brothers/sisters/cousins/step-relatives/friends, etc.

They need to ship it to a CA FFL that understands the process.
Often a gift letter is required.

Contact your preferred FFL and verify they will do this.
There will be a transfer fee for the FFL in addition to DROS so ask what they will charge.

Federal Firearms License, essentially your gun store.
