I have a question for the experienced buyers and sellers here UPDATE

I recently listed an ww2 colt 1911 for sale, it is a family hand me down, I put several hundred rounds through it since taking possession of it, and it functions flawlessly.

A fellow here on calguns bought the gun, and my ffl shipped it to his ffl.

In my opinion it's fine ol example of an old ww2 piece, the gun was rearsenaled between ww2 and korea. He is now complaining that a gunsmith told him that some tolerance is not in spec, something about the slide lugs are a few thousandths off of what a commercial gun would be.

I don't know about that, it's a military gun and it's in beautiful cosmetic condition and shoots any bullets you throw at it.

He says he needs a new slide for it, I believe he's being picky and finicky, what do you guys think. I mean if the gun shoots and ejects shells all day long what's the issue. ww2 guns are known for some sloppy tolerances for dirty and muddy conditions in the field.

I'll buy it if he doesn't want it. Make sure all parts are original if you do decide to refund him

The barrel is not original, as the original was pitted and rusted out, so I fitted a nice older series 80 barrel and it was a perfect fit. The original has been lost due to three moves.

By the way I sold it to him for 1,300

A few thousandths off? Seems like a ridiculous claim regarding a ww11 pistol.

I’d check with a smith. See if it’s a legit concern. Is yes, honor your 15day inspection offer.

Otherwise, no way in heck I’d offer him a nickel to replace the slide. Why would someone pay good money for an old gun, then replace the slide? Fishy.

he said the slide locking lugs should be .03 but they are .06. Thousandths of an inch.

sounds like bs to me, he originally complained that the GI parkerized finish wasn't as parkerized as he would have liked. My ffl said he thought it was a beautiful gun.

                  1. Did he already DROS the Gun to himself?
                  2. Is it within 15 days?

                  3. Is probably still tell him to pound sand...

This is why I don’t ship firearms..

I assume he drossed it, but not sure, it's been 15 days total including the 10 day wait period.

Give hime every penny back, get your gum back and tell em to bugger off.
Sell it to someone who will appreciate it.

I have to dross the gun back and pay my ffl fee and then wait ten days, not something I really want to do.

If he complained within the 15 day inspection period you offered:

Tell him to keep it as is or return it immediately, his choice, no other options.

If he DROSd it already, it’s done. He saw it when it got to the FFL. Tell him to kick rocks. If you really feel bad, then offer him the refund, less shipping, DROS back to yourself, + time, and more time to relist and sit on it. I’d tell him I’ll refund a $1,000. After all you’ll now be the fourth owner now, right?

Not sure what he expects from a gun with history like that

I didn't really offer him a 15 day inspection, unless that is a given for selling a gun from the site.
