    Nv. Open carry

While walking my dog, in the suburbs, can I open carry? There has been a couple of coyote attacks on dogs in the last year, while being walked. A couple more when the dogs where in there backyard. Last year a coyote chased a dog through a doggie door and the owner came home to find a bloody mess inside the house and her dog gone. Can I just carry a .22 on my hip? Anyone know what the penalty is for concealing a gun while walking your dog, without a ccw in Nv.

        From Hanko's link above:

"Nevada allows the open carry of firearms. No permits are required for open carrying a gun. But Nevada law does mandate permits for carrying concealed weapons."

I would suggest something bigger than .22 though.

It doesn't take much to dump a coyote (amhik), but I'd definitely agree with something more than a .22...maybe a cheap revolver in .38 spl.? If you're stuck with or on a .22, imagine 2 lines from ears to the opposite side eyes, and aim for the enter of the "X". Good luck doing that with your dog and the coyote both in motion.

You might also consider a cattle prod...see your local farm store. That should drop the coyote so you can shoot effectively.

Open carry is legal ANYPLACE in Nevada. Some places exempt such as schools, federal property, police stations, etc.

Cannot discharge a firearm to protect a pet in residential area. Try asking Nevada fish & game or sheriffs.

This, I got my CCW for when I visit family there, my parents live near a wetlands preserve and have a significant amount of yotes running around so he carries everywhere he goes for walks with or without his dog. I would review the NRS just to make sure you'll be ok to discharge though.

Conceal carry is not legal in Nevada, unless you have a valid carry permit.
^This includes being inside your own residence and on your own property.
~Concealed upon your person without a valid permit is a NV felony.

Open carry is legal in Nevada.

However, it is not legal to carry on school property, college/university property, and in Gov owned/operated buildings.

In addition, the owner or the representative of private property can ask you to leave their property for any reason (this includes carrying a firearm).
Failure to comply with their request, can result in an arrest for trespassing and depending on your attitude with responding NV LEOs can also result in an arrest for public nusiance.

FUD - There is nothing in the NRS that requires an empty chamber for loaded open carry.
