They used to have one for the RSOs, and I did think the RSOs often times did provide good service, e.g. stopping unsafe renters from muzzle sweeping me for selfies. I did tip the RSOs in their jar on occasion. Now I would not tip for simply ringing me up.Comment

Good idea to me. Good service deserves rewards.Comment

No for me.
It might be ok if they did not use a black pen on that one.
Have it on the counter just in case you felt like tipping.
Maybe seed it with a few $$ so you don't reach into it for free candy.
If you need to be reminded than the service did not exceed your expectations.
My LGS has great customer service and more importantly good information.
Only 1 out of 10 times I drop in for a firearm.
I am a tire kicker but will buy once in a while.
Lately have not visited, to much to do on a Saturday.
I have tipped or as I prefer to say " lunch at Poor Red's is on me "Comment

If it's a small independent FFL, I just usually tell him to leave the change from the PPT charges in the till (I usually give him a couple of $20.00's).Originally posted by NOMADCHRISyour asking a question about asking a question ??? just ask the damn question!!!Comment

It sets the wrong precedence. Employees get paid for good service! Tip jars at Dutch bros are same way. They’re slinging me drinks, which is their job! Now, there’s a tip jar next to the register where I go weekly for breakfast, which is these beerrock things. I always leave a buck or a couple bucks there because the girl comes out to the table for us etc. semi wait staff, gets our food ready, does more than setting it on the counter for us to come get.
The idea that good service should be rewarded by the customer is crazy and I believe contrary to what our values as a country were 100 years ago. 1. Wages for a given job should be such that customers don’t have to supplement it, 2. Good service should be rewarded with continued patronage.
Look at in n out, great service for any restaurant, particularly a burger joint. Yet they arent allowed to take tips, but they’re paid better than competitors.
And if a person isn’t happy with what they make, gets the skills to move on, it’s supposed to incentivize things. If a job requires more time and effort to acquire skills but doesn’t pay any better........who will bother to do the extra work.
That store has no class IMO. I worked a food service job as a teen, for minimum wage. And frankly worked my *** off, moving beer kegs, slinging big bags of ice, 50lb bags of charcoal (was in catering at a big outdoor water park, setup bbqs etc) great way to get in shape and meet girls. Anyways, we weren’t allowed to take tips. We were expected to do our best for our minimum wage. (4.35 at the time IIRC, it had just increased
)
Doesn’t mean there aren’t some jobs that I think it’s fair. Masseuse making 12 bucks that works their *** off for an hour, sure, I’ll throw 10 extra, it’s hard work. Independent masseuse keeping the whole 60, nope. Definitely no for a guy working a nice temp controlled indoor job. If you are a regular and have a guy there that keeps an eye out for things they know you like, calls you to inform about it or so on, personalized service, give $ to them on the low, don’t stick it in a commonunity jar.

The real question is, if the employee looks away just as you put money in the tip jar, do you discretely take the money out of the jar while he's NOT looking so you can make a second attempt to drop the money in the jar while he's looking? (A la George Costanza)
