For me, if it is in the normal performance of the job, of delivering the product to the customer, like the coffee shop, bagel shop, or a sandwich place, no tip. You provide good service in the delivery of the product and I come back. Lousy service and I never return and your business shuts down and you are out of a job. One way to look at it is if there is no other way for me to consume your service or product, then no tip.

Also, for the collective tip jar, am I rewarding the nice person who did a really supper job on my latte who will definitely make me return or the lazy millennial over there with their eyes glued to their phone.

Tipping is when they personally do things for you, that otherwise you would have to do for yourself. When they bring the food to you, take your order table-side, carry your bags, etc. The old wise tale about the origin of the word is "to insure prompt service".

In a gun store it shows ignorance and a complete lack of the concept of customer service. So you won't answer my questions if I don't tip? Isn't one of the biggest complaints on yelp about LGS is that the staff are snobbish and won't help? Not only do they hurt their employers' business, they also act as bad ambassadors for 2A.

It's one thing if they do an estate transfer or something that is really out of the ordinary, time consuming, and not that profitable. But this would probably be a very unusual occurrence.

So for me, a tip jar says they don't care about their business; the employees don't respect themselves enough to work for someone who appropriately rewards their efforts, and they disrespect their customers.

Tacky. I bet this ffl takes the 2nd mag out of new pistol cases to resell them. I know turners rancho does (caught em doing it).

Same with dominos pizza,They want me to tip on carryout? Get real.

I get tips occasionally at my job but its usually because we got someones AC/heat working (requiring much more skill than making pizza).

Is this the same store where you tipped a guy? He told other employees and the boss got wind of it... ;-)

Tips don't have to be cash. I see that as a suggestion box.

I leave a tip at my LGS, they always provide fab service. I always tip when they handle one of my PPT purchases. I would never tip at Turner's. I waited last week for one hour and 45 minutes just to do my paperwork.

My LGS has a jar. It pays for the 2 store cats, Bonnie and Clyde, litter and toys.
