Minimum wage going to $15+ in CA I hear.. That's what the average college grad here makes right after graduation. And the cost of living isn't cheap..

I was taught growing up that it was insulting to tip the owner of a business.

I'd treat that tip jar the same way I treat the new casino trick of asking if you want to add a tip when you pay for the buffet with your credit card... "No". Tips are a gift for good service, not a tax for service.


I'll tip the server in a casino buffet if they take good care of me, but I'll be danged if I'll tip someone just because THEY expect a tip.

Their job that they already get paid for is to take good care of you. In non-tipping countries service is so good, I think it's because they know their job is to provide good service and if they don't they will quickly be replaced with someone who.will.

I think some countries take tips as an insult.
I went to a restaurant in Korea, I left a $5 tip. The waitress chased me down about 1 mile as I was about to head into a subway to give it back.
