I tip my local FFL, Glaser Arms. They don't have a jar, but they do have:

    1) Excellent customer service
    2) Very friendly owner - Zach
    3) Great prices

When you're kind to people who are already naturally going above and beyond it comes back around to you one way or another. I never have to wait for a PPT and have picked up some very nice deals only because Zach has given me first shot at them. I rarely give because I see a tip jar, but I'll give when someone is clearly exceeding the expectations of the job. For instance, your job as a housekeeper is to clean the room. However, if you bring me extra shampoo, leave extra towels, come knock on the door to see if we need anything, I'll tip. Zach is a great guy.

I don't like the whole concept of tipping. If you require more money, charge more for your service or product you are selling. That is one thing, out of many, that I love about travelling in countries where tipping does not exist. You pay for a service, you get the service you pay for. That's the end of it.

Small Business have a huge struggle these days. Be thankful Walmart and other Big Box Sports Retailers are not selling Guns and Ammo, that means some LGS will survive. I would be glad to tip them.

What about the flip side when people ask for discounts or haggle?

It all comes down to whether the retailer want the sale that bad.

Pass on the tip. It is a bit tacky and makes the place look cheap.

I just got back from Argentina. The only people you tip are the wait staff, and that's only 10%.

                        So a $17 dinner gets a $1.70 tip. Nope

We should not have to tip in restaurants in CA as they actually get paid minimum wage+.

I think some countries take tips as an insult.
I went to a restaurant in Korea, I left a $5 tip. The waitress chased me down about 1 mile as I was about to head into a subway to give it back.

I noticed that in countries like Korea and Japan where tipping is an insult, the service is WAY BETTER than it is here. It's like people aren't entitled and think they deserve 20% extra for doing their job.
