As to the .45 thumpers, I have yet to have one agree to stand downrange of my 9mm with 16 rounds of Winchester Rangers, though I've asked many times...
I think you hit the nail on the head. Winchester SXT 147gr 9mm creates a wound channel like .45 (or greater), and penetrates 18"+. That's what I keep loaded in my G17 in the nightstand for things that go bump in the night.

Oh, and the Mrs. will be getting a G19 ASAP. :-D

There is no reason why any person without significant physical handicaps can not learn to effectively shoot a .45 caliber handgun.

I've taken many women to the range who have never shot before and have had them shooting extremely well with a .45, after introducing them to shooting with a .22, of course.

      1) If "the military prefers the .45", why did they switch to the M9, which is of course a 9mm pistol?

      2) A 9mm may expand, but a .45 will never shrink.

This is a positively ridiculous "argument":

I wouldn't agree to stand downrange from a BB gun, paintball gun, or even an airsoft gun, but that fact most certainly does not mean that I would recommend any of those for home defense!!

Edit: Wait a minute, why are you getting a pistol for home defense?! Pick up an 870 loaded with a game load and 00 buckshot! Handguns are no where NEAR as effective as shotguns and rifles are!

      Absolutely!!!

The caliber and grip size of the G21 work well for me.

Fat is where it's at when it comes to bullets and .45's are pretty portly.

In school the teacher taught us 5, 9's are .45.

I'd go with .45 over 9mm but I would take the 19 over the 21. Maybe I've missed it but I don't recall problems with the 19 I've heard of and seen problems with the 21. LAPD stopped using 21's for awhile because of bad parts they were getting light hits, this was about 3 months ago.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Check glocktalk for the LRN or last round nosedive.
