Ruger PCC is the easiest to be accurate and handle recoil. I would give that to your wife and you use the Sig.
If she's not committed to putting holes in the bad guy, you use the PCC and she dial 911.Comment

Lots of good advice provided by friends.
At one time I had a SO who did not shoot. Long story short I signed us upper Appleseed program event. She not only outshot me but was up the next morning ready for day 2!
just saying that 2 people armed and competent the odds of survival go up exponentially over just 1 person, especially if the bad guy has a buddy or 2!
Fortunately the USA with our unalienable gun rights, has lots of the home invasion types afraid they will get plugged, consequently only about 11% of robbery's are home invasion. Our disarmed Canadian friends suffer nearly 50 % of all robberies as home invasions.
Stay safe and its good to plan for the unexpected .
Another good source is the NRA that provide lots of stay safe clinics at our annual conventions. free to NRA members at all levels!
I would grab the 1911 !Comment

Exactly correct advice. I would add to barricade behind bed facing door and keep 911 on the phone.Last edited by OCEquestrian; 10-28-2019, 11:26 PM."Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." ----Sen. Barry Goldwater

if you want to disorient an intruder go to local security store and find the biggest siren you can buy and put if at the top of the stairs or at the top of your bedroom door with a switch. Intruder comes in odds are he is not going to have ear plugs. Get one siren above 140 des and you should have disorientation, momentary deafness so he does not hear the click, and probably instinctively stand straight up making a nice target. choice of gun is yours but now the advantage is yours as well. i have one that drives me out of the house and brings my neighbors in droves. i set it off accidentally once and so did the wind and sheriff would not go in.Comment

Keep a set of your car keys handy, presuming you have a later model vehicle with a "panic button".
Definitely find something the wife feels comfortable shooting (even if it's a .22lr handgun or rifle). This way you've always got a shooting buddy!
If your house is dark, there are ways to use a flashlight or green laser to blind a potential attacker (yes, they might try to shoot at where they think the light is coming from, but they also will be disoriented and hopefully blinded). With two people, one can get a gun mounted laser on target while the second can light things up to make sure you're not killing your drunk neighbor from down the street, or one of your kin that decided to "surprise" you (and yes, that was a scenario recently on the news - guy shot his son or son-in-law dead...).
All bravado aside, you always have to be certain what you're shooting - and sometimes you will have no choice (multiple armed home invaders), other times you may be better served by not pulling the trigger. Keep in mind too that you must be prepared for Law Enforcement to enter the scenario, and anyone with a firearm is at risk.
It's helpful to go through potential scenarios, and never hurts to beef up your security so any potential threat has more difficulty getting to you than it's worth. Security cams, motion detection lighting, etc. etc. Try "breaking in" to your own house.... strengthen any weak points.
Being prepared has many aspects.Comment

I'm also retired with no kids at home. My Para P14 with +2 floor plate was retired from the nightstand when I started shooting bullseye with light loads. In it's place is a Glock 17L and a KSG with 20rds of Aguila minis. I'm not always in bed so there's Para P12 by my living room recliner and a 7.5" BO pistol by my home office desk. All are in condition one. The bedroom is at the back of the house and between a cranky Dachshund and creaky floorboards I should have plenty of warning. If it were just me alone I'd stay hunkered down in the bedroom but with my SO and 3 pets in there with me I believe I'd have a strong desire to engage the threat away from them. The very sight of a buck nekkid geezer wielding a KSG should be enough to paralyze then with laughter or permanently scar their psyche.Comment

I keep my 40cal Sig 2022 in an inexpensive SigArms paddle holster as my HD/bedside gun, mainly because it's my least expensive gun that's good for the task. If it gets taken as evidence I won't miss it.
I also have lots of 10rd mags for it that I scored back when the Clinton ban sunsetted.
I use a hand held flashlight. In my neck of North East Los Angeles, if I have to go outside to check my yard, I don't want to be waving a gun around as a light source. That would spook the hell out of my new hipster neighbors and/or get me shot by the LAPD.
Now that would've made a great screen name
