    Which one do I grab?

Here's my profile: Senior with wife and no kids living at home. I own a SA 1911 Loaded in 45, a 9mm Sig SP2022 (has light and laser), a vintage S&W 38 Special revolver and now a new Ruger PC Carbine 9 mm. I'm not a regular shooter and have fair to average skills. All the guns are in my bedroom.

Here's the scenario: It's 2:30 in the morning and I'm awakened by the sound of a window breaking downstairs and the noise from someone coming into the house.

Here's the question: Which one do I grab? I guess the next question would be is which one I'm most comfortable shooting, right? Probably the Sig Sauer.

A retired cop told me the best thing to do is call 911, arm yourself, hide low in the corner of the bedroom and wait for the cops. Don't go downstairs but be prepared to protect yourself if they enter the bedroom.

Grab the one that you shoot the best. And hopefully you have extra ammo for it handy if it's a revolver.

The cop gave you good advice.
I always shoot my 1911 best in every scenario.
The question is, which do you shoot best?

If all equally accessible, personally I’d take the PC carbine with a 17 rd. mag (obtained courtesy of Saint Benitez, of course) ....lots of multiple-assailant home invasions these days. Harder to miss with a rifle.

if you're going to hunker down, with the sig being small and short, you can hide in a spot where the only way the intruder can see you is if he is staring down the barrel of your gun.

the carbine requires more room to hide and be ready to fire (gun pointing out), but if i was going on the offensive, i would take the ruger.

Ammo capacity first, ease of aiming accurately second.

Since it's unlikely that you will know exactly where each target/bad guy is or how many, hunkering down and targeting the door is safest for you and SWMBO. Everything else is property that should be insured.

If you have a pet, secure them, too.

Have a max-output flashlight and give it to your wife to blind the bad guys, too.

The retired cop told you the right thing.

Hunkering down behind cover or concealment, I would choose the PCC. It's easier to aim with a rifle than a pistol. But I'd put a shake-awake red dot on that PCC.

If you're hunkering down in a tiny space like a small closet, choose the 2022. But put some good night sights on it.

Lock the door to the room you're hunkering down in. Point your pistol or rifle at the point of entry. Stay on the phone with 911 if possible and tell them you're armed. You don't want to shoot the police coming through your door.

It's easier to use a pistol while on the phone, so putting 911 on speaker will likely be your only choice with a rifle. That may or may not be a bad thing depending on the threat. If you are using speaker, place the phone a few feet away from you if you can.

They're gonna have to open the door first, then target the light. If you can't start firing immediately, you should let the wife handle the gun.

BTW, all your guns shouldn't be in the bedroom. What if home invaders burst through your front door and all your guns are on the other side of the house in your bedroom, and you're in the family room watching TV? The bad guys are between you and your guns.

Put a gun or two in quick access safes in other places that you can get to quick.

Fortify and stay down, call 911.
Nobody wants to have to shoot anyone, and stuff is replaceable.
Handguns are for immediate protection, if you’ve called police and secured behind a closed door, moving to a long gun would seem appropriate. Wait for authorities and hope the goblins find what they need downstairs and leave of their own accord before a violent interaction occurs. From my experience, a lot of burglaries are simply crimes of opportunity or happen when people are away. Burglars are often unarmed, but it’s the ones that are that you prepare for.

If I were in your position, Sig first, PCC second.
I mean I’m basically set up the same, but revolver bedside, shotgun close by.
