Went to Walmart 3x, no manager who could do the transaction. The prices on all the ammo went up. Looks like stock is low. I can barely understand the manager whenever I call as her accent is very strong. Someone is always on a meal break. Come back in 1/2 hour I had gotten Federal Brass 9mm for 16.50 a round there and now it's about 22 cents. .22 cal is no deal either. WWB went up as well for 9 and 40.
I just order in bulk online. Not worth the bother. 2 cases of Magtech 9mm for 17.5 cents a round. Fiocchi for 16.50 cents. 40 cal is cheaper too even with shipping. The aluminum federal was a good deal but now it's 22 cents a round as well. Can get Federal American Eagle on line for less than that ( 124 grain is 17.5 cents in bulk). Why bother?

Went to the Orange CA walmart the other day. Showed my Real ID CA Drivers License, signed the paperwork and got the ammo I wanted in 10 minutes.

When I did an ammo purchase at Walmart, I had to have a copy of my birth certificate because I don't have a passport, and my DL is the old style. The process was a little slow, but it got done for the 1$ extortion fee.

Are you sure that's not for paperwork, it's electronic information?
Hard copy paperwork must be stored securely, according to my LGS. He did not say if, or what, digital information is stored locally, and I did not ask.

And why do they only charge $1 for ammo and $25 for a firearm?
I have no clue. Maybe the DOJ has higher salaried lackies doing firearms?

? "If you want nice fresh oats, you have to pay a fair price. If you are satisfied with oats that have already been through the horse, well, that comes a little cheaper."

          Exactly! Great point!

You want your Birth Cert, DL, Passport floating around out there????? In the Hackable internet?

I'm uncomfortable giving my phone number when at a checkout station at stores that ask for it, like Cabela's, Reno, I finally just started giving them a Police Dept's business number.

I needed a few boxes of 20ga steel shot for dove opener.
Walmart and turners were cleaned out but Big5 had some.

I used my big 5 ammo sun. I brought a bunch up and shot 12 20 gauge at dove and 3 12 gauge at chukar. Got 7 dove and 1 chukar and went home and jumped in pool. FYI A MOUNTAIN KILLED 3 OF OUR GOATS IN THE PEN LAST NIGHT. WAITING FOR WARDEN FOR PERMIT. SWITCHING TO 00 BUCK.

Big5 accepted my old style CA drivers license for an ammo purchase on Friday with no other requirements besides their 4 questions on race, place of birth & citizenship.

DROS is not a background check.
DROS is "Dealers Record Of Sale".
It's record keeping for the state database.

A firearms DROS also includes a background check as part of the DROS, but it's a separate STEP in the done behind the scenes and that's why they charge $19 instead of $1.
AMMO DROS checks in the AFS system to see if you have successfully completed a firearms background check in the last 5 years.
If you have not, then you have to do a $19 DROS for your ammo and THAT will include a background check and you will be good in the system for 5 years after that and will only need the $1 checks in the future.
