To be clear. I was told that I needed my passport AND another form of ID real ID.
So my ccw ID with my picture that says I am competent enough to carry a concealed firearm AND my Passport will not suffice as proper ID to buy ammo at that particular Walmart....

I got the same spiel, minus the RealID. I was told my address had to be current but after I showed my driver's history record he said that was okay, but I needed to bring my passport or birth certificate because that was Walmart store policy.

He went on to say that I would only need to bring it once, because they scan it and keep it on Walmart's system for a few years. But I'm not sure I'm gonna bother with that.

I bought a fishing license and some 30-.06 ammo with my drivers license. This was probably 2 months ago. Maybe it’s just your Walmart?

Law came into effect on July 1. ~2 months ago...

I'm also guessing that ammo is not a high profit business for them. But if Walmart can figure out how to streamline this process and comply, they are a big enough distributor to take business from smaller operations.

Big5 fastest and easiest. Couple minutes they ask 4 questions go in back and bring form to sign,

I am wondering, will it be the policy of most big chain stores to scan info and keep it? Because WE ALL KNOW HOW SECURE THAT IS!
I dreamed of owning a (insert off roster gun here)...

Oh yeah....then the earth splits open with me on one side and the (off roster gun) on the other. Then appeared a large red-glowing pit with gavin newscum, diane frankenstein and governor "brown the drain" at the bottom of it, waving their pitchforks at me.

An FFL who is lax with security of DROS would put their license at severe risk if an audit by DOJ or ATF found they were not in compliance, or if a customer suffered identity theft traced back to the FFL.

If I were an FFL, which I am not, I would for darn sure have my act together.

                  On the other hand...

I didn't know the ammo purchase background check is like a dros. Well then, I would see the purpose of keeping the information and the doj having such access and the big retail store giving it to them. I was thinking the $1 dollar charge was for a "soft" background check. I am all for the ID check (not really), but as for them scanning and "storing"it is a different ball game. I would rather produce the ID every time.

Even here in Utah Walmart has changed. They no longer sell AR's...
They keep the ammo locked behind glass or behind the counter now..

Most other sporting goods or gun shops keep the ammo in the open where you grab it and take it to the front register.

Nationally Walmart knows ammo and maybe rifle sales make money for them... But they may bow to public opinion like Dicks did..
Especially with the shooting in its own store.
                        No more Sam Walton..

Before or after the new law for ammo back ground checks......

If you buy ammo under the new law and look at the top of the paperwork you have to sign, it clearly states "Dealers Record of Sale (Ammunition)"

I was at my FFL this morning, buying ammo, in fact, and based upon the comments about security of DROS paperwork in this thread, I asked about security requirements. He said he has to keep all DROS for weapons and ammo secured on the premises and readily available for audit.

Are you sure that's not for paperwork, it's electronic information?

And why do they only charge $1 for ammo and $25 for a firearm?

Oh and sorry, not trying to highjack the thread, just curious.
