If you shoot a fair bit, why not consider joining Sunnyvale Rod & Gun club as a member? As a member, you'll shoot pistol/rifles for free and there are many members only days during which you won't be bothered by public shooters. Not much rules for members, so long as you do it safely no one will bother you. Want to do a mag dump with your Magpul D60 or 33rd Glock magazine on steel target? Go right ahead, and yes I've done it.Thank-you!
FWIW, when I go shooting, I only shoot pistols or rifles/shotguns, not both on the same day at the same place. So, Livermore's stupid MAYBE we'll charge you double if you change sides "rule" doesn't even apply to me.
What bugs me about the "rule" is that we've got at least one alleged RSO saying that they don't ever impose the charge but they want to leave the rule in place JUST IN CASE they want to charge it and purported users of the range saying that they've never been charged it. So, why eveb have such a rule? It's just dumb and typical of the way Livermore does stuff -- just unnecessary and arbitrary BS that makes people (like me) absolutely HATE going there to shoot.
As long as there's somewhere "better," I'll never shoot at Livermore again and I'm apparently not the only one who feels that way, which is something the "club" at Livermore should pay attention to because it's not the ravings of just one disgruntled user. There are many others who have voice the same opinion here in this thread and we are a very small faction of the people who probably feel similarly.
You'll never hear from the others, because they aren't members here. They'll just never show up there again.
As a member (Associate or higher) you'll also be able to open your own trap field and shoot yourself or with your friends/other members. Which is really nice.Comment

I can't speak for anyone else, but traffic in the bay sucks. It doesn't make it fun when you spend 2 hours driving to shoot for an hour. We should not forget that Livermore has probably one of the Premier trap ranges in Northern California. They have a wide variety of competition for people at all levels. They have bunker trap. This is a resource not available to most trap shooters. They're primarily a trap club and their board is primarily made up of Trapshooting members.
The rifle pistol side of the club is another story. It is the cash cow of the facility. And unfortunately is not managed to the same level of having a robust set of activities. Fortunately they have finally started some sort of steel competition after all these years. The fact that there are still porta-potties at the upper range is telling. It is a matter of priorities and what they want to focus on. Most of the negative comments in this discussion are focused on the rifle/pistol side of the club.Last edited by AAShooter; 07-27-2019, 8:24 PM.Comment

Yes, I am glad to see that they finally started some steel shoots on Wednesday nights (1st & 3rd Wednesdays from 5-9 pm). I may head out there to watch one evening. Then, decide if I'm in over my head or not.
Was actually surprised they didn't have anything going on there when I first started going there (2012) since they definitely had the space to do it.Les Baer 1911: Premier II w/1.5" Guarantee, Blued, No FCS, Combat Rear, F/O Front, Checkered MSH & SA Professional Double Diamond Grips

I stopped shooting at Martinez many years ago because they could not start a shoot on time to save their lives. As far as being more active with club activities, Livermore has slipped in that regard. Other than activities as part of planned shoots, they do very little as far as club dinners and such. They closed their memberships to new members. Dont even think they do a newsletter anymore. Kind of sad to see the trend.Last edited by AAShooter; 07-28-2019, 6:01 AM.Comment

Livermore range
Is Livermore any different?
What else are you going to use to shoot if it doesn't look like a trap/skeet shotgun? You mean you'd rather use an assault type shotgun to do that? I've got them but I'd never use them to do that and I don't fault any range that would prohibit them.
Doubt even Livermore allows that on their trap range.Last edited by XDJYo; 07-28-2019, 9:15 AM.Les Baer 1911: Premier II w/1.5" Guarantee, Blued, No FCS, Combat Rear, F/O Front, Checkered MSH & SA Professional Double Diamond Grips

Was there this past Saturday on the pistol side. I got there around 1:30 or so? It started to clear out by around 2:00 to 2:30. It wasn't too busy by then. RSO's were cool. Odd announcement on one of the cease-fires. Couldn't tell exactly what he was saying. Oh well. Saw some newbies getting their first rounds down-range. As always, SOP is to watch your neighbors for any unsafe practices. One guy was shooting black powder. MAN! What a boom! And the smoke that followed! Hilarious! Never seen anyone shooting black powder before.

I think that was the same day/time I was there with the wife & son. I've only been to this range a couple of times but I'm liking it so far. The wife (& son) are just getting into shooting and the wife likes it there so we'll definitely be going back. I love shooting but haven't been out as much as I'd like to. This range is so close to me that I can't understand why I haven't been going regularly.
BTW - sorry I missed the guy with the black powder!NRA Life MemberComment
