I don't post very often, but I do enjoy the site and the content. If this is the wrong place to post my question, I apologize. It seems that oftentimes when sellers are discussing the PPT, they say they do not want to use Turner's. Why is that? They're the local shop where I'm at and where I got my FSC. Are they a problem when it comes to a PPT? I appreciate any info, thanks.

Question about Turner's

I doubt that there are many shops who like doing PPT. I would think that Turners would do this just to bring in business, maybe not.
I've bought a lot of guns through Turners, it's always a little longer because of all the checks and recheck that they do, it's always been better then Ammo Bros, atleast for me.
Maybe a location would help for suggestionsIt takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

The small shop I go to in San Marcos doesn't mind PPT. Never been to the Turner's in the same city.Comment

It's like any other corporation situation. I'm a bit of a Turner's junkie. I hit a lot of stores. I like some better than others....because of the personnel and how active their used/consignment shelves are. Matter of fact, I have a few Turner guys that I seek out specifically because things just go smoother with them. Try it for yourself, and make your own decision.Comment

Let's put it this way, those in a persistent vegetative state are more competent and have more personality than Turners' employees.Last edited by SarcoBlaster; 05-28-2019, 6:11 PM.Comment

I've never had a bad experience at the Turner's in Lake Forest. I wouldn't do a PPT there because of the wait, but they are a store in California that supports us so I like to give them some of my business in return.Comment

I would agree with this ...^^^^ I bought a couple guns via PPT at that the Corona Turners. They were fast and efficient. I think part of the problem is CalGunners going to Turners during peak traffic times to do a PPT. The problem is the extra internal paperwork / processes that a corporate operation like Turners imposes above and beyond what the Feds and State require. The other issue is the wide variation in knowledge and familiarity that typical casual counter help may or ,ay not have with the PPT process.
This needs to be said regardless of how bad most Turners are for PPT. Turners has done a LOT over the years to support the 2nd Amendment and the NRA here in California...Last edited by OCEquestrian; 05-28-2019, 7:48 PM."Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. This......
One of the most befitting and descriptive statements I have seen in several years.
OP, if you mention your location, some one will post one or more FFLs that are close to your neighborhood Turners.Comment

Play the winning odds and go elsewhere.
Preferably a shop that releases on undetermined.
If you have to go, range report with timing requested.
Get there a few minutes before they open on a weekday to minimize the wait.
It took 1.5 hours for the FSC when I took it (5 minutes taking the test).Originally posted by Kestryll:

I did a PPT at Turner's in Temecula once. My experience buying any guns at a Turner's has been that of waiting and waiting and waiting. Their process seems unnecessarily longer than anywhere else.
Duncan's in San Marcos was good and fast for a PPT, Discount Gun Mart in Santee was pretty long when I PPT'd there but something was wrong with their computers they said.
My favorite place for ALL online transfers and PPTs is Precision Gun Works in Vista. The guy who runs the place, Tony, can get you in and out pretty smoothly. But he's also a talker if talking is what you're into as well. 5 star for that place.Comment

Turner's, from my experiences, by location:
Pasadena: super slow PPT (took 3 hrs, yeah believe it), overwhelmed with lookyloos, all day and night
Burbank: pretty good PPT experiences, not as busy or crowded as Pasadena
Fountain Valley: Busy, not as smooth as Ammo bros (Santa Ana) or Riflegear (Fountain Valley), but decent.
Sacramento: New, helpful staff, and fast DROS
Chino Hills: Reasonable, fast helpful. Hardest part was the drive out there
Corona: Busy but fast PPT.
Overall, worst experience I had was in Pasadena, where some guy just didn't know how to PPT something; but insisted on doing it--that was the one that took 3 hours. The owner and I were so flustered, but neither of us had the time to put together another meetup, so we stuck it out. Another note: Guy doing the PPT for me at Chino Hills was a little strange: stuck the pistol I was PPT'ing, into his wasteband, while me and the owner were filling out paperwork. At the time, never saw something like that before, so I didn't say anything to him. The owner and I were comparing notes, thought he was weird. Whatever.. My pistol wasn't damaged at the time of pickup, but I never went there again. LOLthis is a signatureComment

probably varies by store, staff and mgmt.
there is that turners guy that has been giving and taking feedback.
i can see how some places that take hours don't want or like to do them for the 35 bucks or whatever.
but if everyone is on the ball, it can be 1/2hr. just did one at riflegear and it didn't take much longer than that.Comment
