NRA President will not serve 2nd term

    Please delete if already posted

Seems the infighting has really spilled out in to the open

This happened about 1 hr ago

Oliver North announced on Saturday that he will not serve a second term as president of the National Rifle Association, after bitter infighting erupted at the gun rights group's convention.
Top executive Wayne LaPierre sent a letter to board members Thursday outlining that North was trying to oust him by threatening to release "damaging" information about him to the NRA's board. The Associated Press confirmed the contents of the letter

Should be interesting. Oli North called out Wayne LaPierre on his expense account and Wayne is being a douche bag about the offer to leave honorably. So now it will get ugly.

I agree that it needs to be both.

Wayne is like Biden, too male, pale and stale.

What is gained by announcing he's a short time lame duck?

Is it a bluff to the rest of the board?

Or is it sour grapes sniveling?

They have always been both. Somehow contemporaries lose track of that, but if I go back and read some old NRA American Rifleman magazines from the 1960s, the pages are interspersed with concern for stopping anti-2nd Amendment legislation and tyrant politicians. Much of the articles sound like they were written for the "First Freedom" magazine of today.

Not a fan of LaPierre but Oliver North is sketchy as hell. As an NRA member, I was disappointed when they chose North as president. This is good news IMO.

I read LaPierre's letter and if it is true sounds like North was bought by the advertising agency to derail the lawsuit against them.

                    **Edit**

Back when Pete Brownell was president, I was excited as we had someone with real skin in the game, as opposed to people just collecting a check.

Front the article: ...who believe the group's media operation and messaging have strayed too far from the NRA's original mission of gun safety and the outdoors.
Well that is because our government, career-politicians, and the creep of a disturbing push for disarmament to usher in Socialism... have strayed too far from the 2nd Amendment's original mission of the right to keep and bear arms.

With all that said, I don't have a lot of trust for CNBC providing a report that isn't biased or hyped in a way to imply there is much more drama here than is actual. It works for them if they can use anything to paint a negative picture of the NRA.

Yahoo is reporting that North has stepped down. Don't know how accurate that is, but it may be as it is also reported that North will not be renominated for the presidency of the NRA.
I haven't liked North since I/we found out about the Iran Contra illegalities. Didn't know he existed before that of course.

Not even close; revelations are showing it was Oli North's employer Ackerman McQueen with whom he has a $1MIL contract to make a few $5,000 budget videos on the NRA's dime, that was called out on THEIR expense and accounting and North is being a douche bag about it, and quitting abruptly to avoid any revelation of just what truly may be ugly about Ackerman McQueen and North.

                          Fixed that for you.

He may get paid $0 as president but I have hard time believing he isn't getting paid because he is the president of the NRA from other organizations/entites. Like I said, as an NRA member, I would be happier with a Pete Brownell vs. an Oliver North.

You are welcome to disagree but it is my opinion.
