    Bedside HD config question

I have a question about how you have your HD handgun ready. (bedside access)

I know many of us have the top open lid type bedside safe (i.e. simplex locked ones, finger combo, bio metric ones).

How do you store your handgun in there?

I know the round in the chamber question has been thrown out there a lot ( I prefer round in the chamber)

I've always had it laying flat and to the side in said safe.

My question is, do any of you guys have it in a small holster?

Can imagine grabbing it in the dark.....

    Thoughts?

Depends if you got young kids in the house.
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

Simplex for speed, reliability, and probably a lifetime of durability. Bolted to my bed frame so it's right next to my pillow.

How do you store your handgun in there?
In the holster attached to the door so the gun is presented to me in the exact same place every time with the trigger protected.

I know the round in the chamber question has been thrown out there a lot ( I prefer round in the chamber)
Always chambered and a couple spare loaded magazines in there too.

That's how most handgun safes work. easy to grab the trigger though.

My question is, do any of you guys have it in a small holster?

Yes, but since it's attached to the safe's door, it's truly a one-handed draw.

Can imagine grabbing it in the dark.....
Yes, that can be an issue and very common with just laying it on the nightstand, in a drawer, or even most handgun safes.

Umm, all six cylinders loaded and on top of my socks?
Kid free home and my wife doesn’t put away my socks.

One of those gun magnets screwed in to the side of my nightstand and my HD gun hanging from it. No kids in the house, and wife is fully aware and capable of using it if she needs to.

Thanks! This is good info to know for me. How did you secure the holster to the foam inserts? Or did you take the foam inserts out and secure it another way?

If i read correctly you have it secured to the door of the safe and not the floor right?

                  Thanks.

I'd suggest practicing a couple of times in the dark gaining access to the firearm to see what's comfortable and what works.

Having it out is the fastest. If I were to do this, I'd just lock it away when I leave, but that's a chore to remember doing everyday.

Another option is leaving it in the safe loaded that's easily accessible. I don't think a holster in the safe is necessary, but if you can find the right one that positions the firearm in a good place, I'd bet it'd be the best option. Otherwise practice reaching in the dark and puling it out. You shouldn't have an issue touching the trigger if you always leave it oriented the same way.

Yes, practice. I have it positioned to grab one way if I'm up and out of the bed during normal hours, and another way when I hit the sack in best position to grab from the laying in bed position.

My carry gun becomes my home defense gun at night. It's just sitting on the nightstand in it's holster.

                            Holstered. Out of plain view.

What he said. I have 3 of his pistol safes.
