He probably assumed that the loaded mag is in the gun. My fault for not being clear.

Concealed in the backpack. That is a separate issue from being a loaded gun. Loaded mag is not a loaded gun unless it is inserted and a round is chambered or ready to chamber.

Locked container must be in plain view or the [hand-]gun is considered concealed (if within reach of the driver?)

      Guess I need an update?

FUD unless you can provide the penal code. Please go read 25610 and 25400.

Loaded mag in gun = loaded gun. No need to chamber a round to make it so.

Man, this thread is a mess of FUD already. I understand doing extra if that makes you feel better but why do we add to the madness with poor advice?

No magazines loaded with the gun and no rounds in the chamber. I lock the magazines with my ammo. If you are pulled over, at least you are transporting properly. If you have a long gun, you can put a lock through the magazine well and chamber. Everything Must be locked!

Loaded mag in gun = loaded gun. No need to chamber a round to make it so.
Yes. That's what I said. Thanks. "or ready to chamber", or, to be more specific, "ammunition in a position ready to fire".

What is unclear is if there are any changes to the Concealed Gun Law described in the 2010 Edition of "How To Own A Gun And Stay Out Of Jail" wherein is stated, and I paraphrase,

"unloaded handgun in a locked container, locked container must be in full view" when in the passenger (and driver) compartment of a motor vehicle. His gun being in a locked container in a backpack may well constitute "concealed".

Respectfully, why not then post any correct information? rather than just call people's posts fud.

                Just curious.

Not meaning any offense. I was pointing out that a loaded mag in the magwell is enough for the gun to be considered loaded. No need to have a round in the chamber. I suppose if your post said loaded mag inserted, or round in the chamber, that would describe the "loaded gun" more specifically.

"....Loaded mag is not a loaded gun unless it is inserted and a round is chambered..."
I also suppose that calling FUD is the easier/lazier way out for me since this has been visited many times over, i.e., ammo locked in separate box, kept separate from gun and magazines can't be in case with gun, each bullet locked in separate container, and on and on.

As mentioned above, all items, gun, magazine, ammo can be in the same container, even loaded mags, as long as the gun is unloaded and in a "locked container" you are good to go for transport. AW regs aside, that is.

While transporting and not in a School Zone, gun free zone...
Unloaded long guns are not required to be locked
Ammunition is not required to be locked
Loaded mags are not required to be locked

Unloaded long guns have to be in a locked container when they are RAWs or registered 50BMG rifles and, ALL long guns must be in a locked container when traveling through a GFSZ. The problem is most people do have to travel through GFSZs at some point along their route.

This is why I always keep a blanket in my 4runners trunk.
Large blanket goes over the cache of legally secured weapons.
Out of sight = no problem.

Yes, RAWs and .50 BMGs would be another case requiring long guns to be locked.

If a person is legally transporting a firearm and asked "do you have any guns in the car"? Why not just tell the truth. Legal is legal, and illegal is illegal. Why play word games.
