Fontana school police for years were only allowed to openly carry a firearm during grave shift. Because of this policy most officers carried concealed during days and swings.

MassArt police officers are academy trained and licensed as Special State Police Officers as well as Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs.

Just because they are unarmed on-duty, doesn't mean they aren't law enforcement officers.

If they're cops, they're cops. If they aren't, they're not.

You must have a very specific opinion of 'campus cops'

When I attended Oregon State many years ago, they had a campus security force that could ticket for various violations and detain people to be handed over to the local and state police. They were unarmed. They mostly abused their power. They patrolled campus using motorcycles and on several occasions knocked people off of bicycles just for riding in pedestrian walkways where bicycles were prohibited. A few lawsuits paid out by the state cause a change to all public colleges and universities being patrolled by the State Police. The professionalism greatly improved. The were also armed.

I have friends that work at colleges in the midwest and on the east coast who only have security officers patrolling the campus. They are unarmed and basically are just an extra set of eyes and ears with a radio contact to a dispatcher that can quickly contact the local PD or sheriff. Some of the more liberal colleges have voted to keep guns off of campus because they are scary. Some students cannot handle seeing LE carrying a sidearm without the need to run to their safe space.

eh, most college campuses are such easy targets for mass attack. don't even need guns.

just a uhaul truck, shrapnel, and pounds of explosive material. drive it into the quad area during a "club activities week" and kaboom.

or if they want to go for the sneak attack, sneak it in as a booth during such an event or as a food caterer/delivery truck and same kaboom.

or suicide vests and have multiple persons walk onto campus (since most colleges are open campuses) and multi-kabooms.

or if explosives aren't available, then just have 2 vehicle drivers in trucks and just go on GTA style rampage driving over the students. have the vehicles at opposite ends of campus, and have one start driving a few minutes after the other, to get a herding effect going so the second truck can get their victims running straight to them in a large panicked mass. and if there is a passenger in the trucks, have them throw out home-made tear gas to incapacitate anyone running for easily run over later if they didn't get them in the first pass.

that scenario could play out in any crowded area, not just a school campus - we have to admit to ourselves that we are vulnerable practically anywhere we go

And there's still people who would stay on the job as a campus cop there? No f***ing way I'd be a cop there. FFS, anyone with half a brain knows that school campuses are gun free sheep zones. Come to think of it, I wouldn't even want to be a student there. If I was even considering attending school there or being a cop or even a teacher or any other reason to be on that campus I'd have a concealed gun on me at all times.

Which is why I avoid crowded public events whenever possible. Also the same reason that I don't go anywhere that I can't keep my concealed weapon on me.
