For home protection I recommend the Glock 17, 34, and even the 17L

I don't like the 26 for home protection because there is no light rail and because it's just too snappy and there's a lot of muzzle rise. I cannot get a good grip on it either as my pinky of my trigger hand hangs off. When I owned one, I barely shot it, so I just gave it to my brother.

I'm not a big fan of the 19 either because of muzzle flip. The grip is better than the 26 and it does have a light rail which I like. (I never had a 19, but I had a 23 with a 9mm conversion which was pretty much the same thing)

The 17 and 17L is what I would prefer to have bedside because for me it is easier to manage recoil and put consistent shots down range. That extra barrel and slide really help control recoil and muzzle flip.

(I don't own a 34, but it is on my list to have one day in the future for USPSA)

Right now, I don't have any sights on my 17 (which was once my HD gun) and my 17L has the crappy stock glock sights, so I am just using my Springfield 1911 TRP as a HD gun. IMHO, I don't understand why some people choose the 26 as a HD gun. I believe a HD gun should be a gun you trust to go to battle with.

(You likely can't get it, but the Glock 18C is actually the best hd gun)

Have had all three. I would say 17 as it is slightly larger than the 19. I had a 34 gen 4 and sold it. Just did not shoot as well as the 17.

The one you have learned how to operate when 1/2 asleep

There are a bizillian threads on the Glock 17 and 19 for a reason

For home I would even suggest the 34.

A light attached and a paddle holster that holds the gun and light too
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

another good reason to pick the standard sized G17

it handles all types of loads better, super reliable, even with 9mm NATO or +P

the smaller the gun the more muzzle flip / feels snappy , a standard sized gun handles better, so you will be more efficient with it in a defense situation.

G17 with a TLR1 weapon light. Honestly for the home, you are better off with a shotgun. 12 gauge pump from Big5. Remington or Mossberg will do.

G43! It's the only glock you'll ever need!

But seriously... iirc the 19 was developed because the 17 was just a pinch too big to be comfortably carried for duty by some. And so what you get essentially in a 19 is a 17 shortened by like half an inch in the slide and grip lengths.

I feel the 19 is probably the most practical of them all but if I'm at the range I'd go 17. That's it. I'd say the same for the longer slide versions too. Get the 19 unless you have big hands and need that extra little bit of real estate.

G17 for me. Full size frames soak up some of the recoil. I have no experience with the G34 tho.

Glock 22, Glock tritium night sights, Olight PL-Mini, 2 mags. Simple HD setup.

I have both the 17 and 21, I carried the 21 in Arizona did both CCW and Open carry. With night sights and a weapons light I would rely on both. I use Glaser Saftey Rounds first 6 shots out of the mag followed by hollow points.

But I still would avidly recommend a pistol grip pump for home defense. I also would advise not seeking out the intruder even in your own home unless you know how to clear a home effectively.

I always advise to sit in a blind corner of the room. Announce you have a gun, are on the line with 911 and will defend yourself while keeping the gun trained on the doorway.

If it’s a friendly they will announce themselves.

G19 for me. I have larger hands. One would think G17 would be the best fit. Nope. The G19 feels better in my hand and I get a better purchase on it, which makes me shoot it better. Same capacity and there's no felt difference in recoil.

                      I have both G19 and 17. I choose 19 over 17.

                        I would say a 17 or 19.

I agree with Pimpin' on the shotgun, as for the Glock the 34 is nice. I have a G22 with a TLR 1 HL on both the G22 and the shotgun. I also have a 120 German Shepard who is very protective.

I’ve had the 26, 19, 17 and 34. Of the four, the 34 is the only one I’ve kept around and is my HD pistol. If you’re looking for an option strictly for HD and you are not going to carry it, the G34’s slightly longer sight radius and the minus connector make all the difference.
