Blondes or brunettes? The answer is the same, both, at the same time

In the interest of my health, I'll start doubling up now.

Double up inside, and just foam outside.

I agree with most posting here - I tend to double up when shooting indoors at my CCW renewals. Being in an small enclosed space while several persons are shooting at the same time can be quite noisy!

Otherwise I shoot outdoors and use a pair of connected by a cord ear plugs outdoors, unless I go to a larger caliber weapon such as .30 caliber or larger rifles/ shotguns, or my .357 magnum pistols - then I use the muffs also.

Use both and save your hearing. No reason not to.

I have a problem getting a good cheek weld when using my Leigh electronic muffs when shooting my rifles, so normally only use plugs. When shooting my handguns, I were the muffs. I only shoot out in the desert, so noise magnification due to confinement is not and issue for me.

The nice thing about the electronic ear muffs that amplify ambient sounds in the background is that when you have the sensitivity/volume cranked up, you can hear commands from Range Officers and what's going on around you in clear detail. I can easily hear a vehicle coming from over 1/4 mile away so virtually nobody's going to be able to sneak up on me while I'm shooting.

I use ear plugs and electronic earmuffs. Hate to damage my hearing when it can easily be prevented.

Custom plugs work great. You can get them made at gun shows for around $50. They pair well with muffs when extra protection is needed.

Sounds will come via the skull and throat as well, but for most shooting sports, the ear canal is the entry point needing the most attention.

BTW, when using plugs and muffs, the NRRs are not addiditive.

I do it the opposite, double up inside and electronic muffs outside.

                                both for indoors.

one or other for outdoors. only use both outdoors when there is some rifle with a brake or a large caliber firing next to me.
