I had a live shell slide out of a Mosin chamber once - and I had stored it with the bolt removed, so it had been stuck in there for who knows how long.

I only have two loaded guns. All others are empty, no mags no ammo. But all are deemed loaded always!

I'm sure some people keep their guns locked up and unloaded with the ammo in a separate locked container - per California's suggestion. Others, probably have their weapon at the ready for home defense, while still others who CCW have their gun always ready. However, I really don't know what others do.

Me? All my regular non-target guns are loaded and in a safe. If I happen to take it out with me, I will chamber check prior to taking it out of the house.

Slide check, plus magazine check to make sure it is seated.

OH, MY gosh -- Yes, revolver owners can do a cylinder check too

        Thoughts, suggestions?
If you don't check it every time you pick a gun up you are not being safe. A gun is always loaded, especially if you cant see inside the chamber

If a gun is always loaded, treat it as such. If that's the case, then does it really matter if it's actually loaded?

Yep, agree with both of the above.

Any time I handle a gun, I chamber check it. Even if the slide or bolt are already locked back, I'll still rack it again and visually check to make sure.

            "All guns are always loaded."

I also chamber check my loaded defensive guns occasionally to make sure I didn't forget to chamber a round, although that's less critical (but still important).

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Every time I pick it up, or someone passes theirs to me.

I only check the chamber when I want to be sure if the firearm is loaded or not, which means pretty much any time I interact with one.

                Anything else would be unsafe.

Typically I check them right after the first round goes off...........

Rule #1 All guns are loaded:
If they are in my safe they are probably unload, check every time and have anyone who handles them also check.

If it's out of the safe see rule #1, they are loaded and ready for use.

An unloaded gun is a weird shaped rock, awkward hammer or bat.

I have no kids in the house so all of my guns are locked and loaded. Everything is in a safe except some well hidden HD pistols. Those are placed to be able to fight your way to a safe with a long gun. From there it is click off safe (on those that have a safety) and start shooting. Condition 1 at all times. However, I STILL do a chamber check every time I pick up a weapon.

                        Every. Freaking. Time.

I've done plenty of dumb things in my life, but I really, really, really, don't want an ND to be one of them.
