As I just posted in a California 2nd Amendment thread, Washington is also considering following New York and California in terms of going after the NRA's Carry Guard insurance.

That doesn't make it as good as, better, or worse than other states. Just another factor to consider in terms of where things might be headed.

Gun laws are good. Shall issue CCW. No background check if you have a CCW. Property tax is cheaper.
Downside, Californians are moving here in droves, not just the Republicans. Clark county car registration is more expensive than CA. Car insurance is more expensive. Car must be smogged every year. DMV is busy, but you can get an appointment after a day or two. No redwood trees, hot in the summer months but bearable not humid.
If I was going to retire in NV it would be up north, unless I had a severe gambling addiction. No smog, much better weather, and a lot fewer people.

Go here for WA laws. You can also look at other states.

I'd like to see how they could make that even work. IIRC, New York is getting sued for trying that.

My brother lives and works for US Fish and Wildlife in Wenatchee, WA. A whole different world than the Seattle area. One of my daughters lives in Vancouver and works in Portland. Both are nice areas. Wenatchee has a nice gun club and range where a member has 24/7 access, I believe. You also have the river running through Wenatchee for salmon. Rural area that produces tons of apples and cherries. Good hunting not far. I would have considered retiring up there somewhere but I can't get my wife that far away from her family in OC.

Leavenworth is not far from Wenatchee and is a German town similar to Solvang down here, but more low key. Good beer and food there.

Going to Wenatchee and Leavenworth next week.
Meanwhile, I attended an anti I1639 meeting tonight. It was originally going to be held at a local gun shop but the response was so big that they had to move it to the ballroom at the Hilton hotel!
I think we might beat this.

Yes. The NRA is suing Cuomo. But, evidently, California just did the same thing. Simply suing doesn't mean they can't do it.

The basis of the claims appear to differ in California and New York. Unfortunately, that's what Cuomo has been pushing; i.e., use your State laws to find a way to hurt the NRA by shutting down their insurance arm. I don't know what rationale Washington would use, but it doesn't have to be the same as California or New York. In that sense, it would mean the NRA having to fight a different form of the battle in each state ordering cessation.

The point, however, is that the State of Washington is considering a similar attempt. Even if they ultimately don't and even if I-1639 is defeated in this round, it speaks to the mindset of a portion of the Washington State Government vis a vis gun ownership. In other words, it's potentially both a pro and a con; the former if it's defeated and the latter if it is implemented. The problem with the "pro" aspect is the unfortunate caveat of "for now," which is what is being consistently pointed to in this thread.

That doesn't make Washington a 'bad' choice. The fact that there are elements in Oregon pushing similar thinking doesn't mitigate that it's happening in Washington as well. It might even speak more to the idea that we in California have suffered defeat after defeat, so we view negative outcomes to "gun rights" as somewhat 'inevitable.' But, it does address the OP's request for pros/cons.

Hopefully, you guys do defeat I-1639 and Washington doesn't follow Cuomo and California.

It's probably Bloomberg with his billions more than the mindset of the state govt. He's throwing his money around in every state there's a chance for more gun control.

                            Oh, good.

The Washington State Government might not have a true, anti-gun mindset, just an "We can be bought" frame of mind.

It's a bit of both. The governor, Inslee is your classic political opportunist with an eye on the presidency.
One thing that could help us isHanoi Jane Fonda has come out loudly in favor of I-1639. That can only help us imho. Lots of military people in Washington...
