How moving to the Oregon/Washington border can save you moneyOriginally posted by L84CABO...If you like trees, Washington and Oregon may be an option for you too. Beautiful country. But both states, however, are suffering the same fate as Colorado is. The gun laws in both states are pretty good at the moment. But liberals are doing their best to Californicate both states...
If I had to, personally, pick between the two, I'd probably choose Oregon; provided I could choose the section and didn't have to worry about earning an income. -
If we can't beat I 1639 I'll say pass on Washington. If we do beat it then you can have anything but full auto. WA is shall issue. If you have a ccw there's no wait for your firearm when you buy. PPTs have to go through an ffl. No roster, .50 bmg is legal and 20-30 round magazines abound.
ETA. If 1639 passes there is no ban per se but ALL semi-automatic rifles, rimfire as well as center fire. 10 day wait for semi auto rifle and you must get LEO ok to get it.
It's a bad pop splatter of a law. Interestingly, there are no exemptions for leo.Last edited by GW; 09-04-2018, 10:13 PM.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

Washington is two steps behind Cali, according to friend in Seattle. Every year new bans are attempted.
At least in OR you can have machine guns.Comment

I just moved to WA about a year ago and I love the weather out here. Gun laws are much more relaxed out here. Tax stamps (for suppressors/SBR are 4-9 month wait). Don't live near/close/in Seattle unless you wanna pay $2k+/month for a studio.
If I had to pick again, I would move to Oregon, but I'm not sure how tax works out there. There's no sales tax, so I'm guessing they make it up somewhere else (My guess would be property taxes).
CCW/CPL was easy to obtain. Just have to establish residency and went to my local police station and got finger-printed (for background check), paid the fee (~$50), 30 days later my CCW/CPL arrived in the mail.Last edited by kuga; 09-05-2018, 8:23 AM.Comment

Oregon is a little more blue collar than Washington. The Seattle area is incredibly pretentious with traffic that can rival L.A. Portland has a bit of a bohemian feel to it, specially on the NW side of town. Both states are completely different once you leave the coastal range, like night and day as far as climate, terrain, and people. Having traveled extensively in both states on business If I had to choose it would be Oregon. People are generally friendly in Portland and they don't have a stupid coffee stand every 10 feet like Seattle.Comment

I am looking at either Vancouver, Bellingham Washington area, Hillsboro OR. Area, Colorado, and Nevada. Nevada last because they have no Kaiser hospital there but it is closer to family. All the other states do have a hospital. I am trying to get the pros and cons of each.Comment

I'm in Vancouver
Love it here Sort of have the best of both states here. No state income tax by virtue of living in Vancouver and a short trip across the river and I'm not paying sales tax. CCW is easy to get and the DMV in this state is fast courteous and efficient. The weather has been nice but I haven't gone though my first winter yet. Portland is crazy but there's great food, one of the best book stores in the world (Powell's), some good gun shops and a bunch of great butcher shops.
Moving here was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
61 years in California was enough.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

Gun laws are decent in WA. $55, fingerprints, and a one page form will get you a permit after a 30 day background check. No class, no test, no good cause statement BS, etc. With a permit you can take your gun home the same day. Suppressors are legal. Etc.
The problem is how long it will remain like this. The mess that is Seattle (and Portland too), is dramatically changing the landscape of the state. As the Crap Hole continues to grow and expand, it will no doubt continue to fill up with Leftist vermin. So far they've been able to fend off assault weapon bills and other stupidity but I don't think it will be long before they'll have enough votes. I give both states another 5-10 years before they essentially become as bad as Ca. I hope I'm wrong."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."
