Might just make a fun AR for mid-range and get a specific long-range purpose rifle based on all the info here. I would be looking for 800 yds plus.

Affordable mid-range = 223 Wylde shooting 75-77 grain bullets from a magazine or 80 grain bullets seated long (~2.5" COL) and single-loaded into the chamber. These are the NRA Highpower AR-15 service rifle shooters' go-to loads from the 600 yard line.
Service rifle division is limited to US service rifles and service cartridges, so it's basically a choice of 223 or 308 or 30-06. From what I understand, these 223 75 - 80 grain loads equal or surpass the 175 grain load that the M1A/M14 service rifle shooters use.
I'm not sure about 800 yards, but I do think some people shoot FT/R rifles in 223 using 90 grain bullets. Out to 1000 yards even. These are bolt action rifles, not AR-15s though.Comment

6.5 Creedmore. (AR10/SR25) frame. They are heavy though. Springfield M1A recently released in 6.5 Creedmore if you want semi auto without all the AW BS laws. Ammo price have dropped a bunch. Used to be $1.00 a pull, now .60.
