Where to shoot in NorCal off-range?

They don't mention the Shooting Range on the website. It's marked on the map though. Maybe they don't want to advertise the Shooting Range?

Spenceville Range is very minimal, a few tables and a parking lot. Some berms to shoot against. No water. No supervision.

I suggest getting there at dawn and leaving before it gets too hot. From time to time there are some ignorant and stupid shooters that show up. I suggest being prepared to pack up and leave if you see any unsafe people.

Mostly people pay attention to what they're doing and respect "Range Hot/Cold" when hollered out by someone. Sometimes people pick up their trash. Occasionally there's a TV or Computer carcass or even a washing machine. Maybe some broken glass here and there.

Please clean up your trash. Use the place at your own risk.

you should take a pic of the signs right at the firing line. They ALL say clay and paper targets ONLY. I shoot there quite a bit and can say without fear of spreading fud I have seen citations written for shooting steel.

I've been dozens of times and never seen these signs. Turns out they are first posted 3 benches down in the rifle section of range...







There is an empty sign post I'd never noticed before between benches 1&2 at the pistol berm; I don't know if staff or vandals removed a sign, but I've never caught any flak from F&G or the Butte County SO when they've driven by while I'm shooting steel with my pistol (AR500 targets in a legit stand).

I would agree but a couple years back before the big rains we pulled out a bunch of pumpkin vines near the pistol berm on the right hand side at a clean up. So it can grow some stuff.

I live in Stockton, how long of a drive is it? Just want to see if I already know of this place.

Go south on I-5 for 3 hours to Panoche Rd. Head west a mile or 2 and get to Tumey Hills

Was at spenceville a week and a half ago. You can easily miss it if its your first time, being a dirt road that is. It was my first time in an open range. Everyone is cool. No sign of aggressive behavior from anyone or a show off watch-me-kind of person.. It was a hot day, glad we bought a canopy. Someone will call to clear out/time out and every group will responded, put the gun down where you will be allowed to set put in the target area and set your target in place, until everyone is back in business again.. Ive seen people bring watermelon, soda, balloons, paper target etc..It was a great time. The only thing I did not like was the fact that it did not have a toilet and my cell signal is in and out. Overall, I was content and had an extremely great time with the family and friends.
Next time, I am planning to check Oroville.
