I like the threshold that if you have to move the ammo to get to your clothes, you may have too much.

First, people complaining about hoarding are simply whining that they don't want to pay the current market price.

Second, this burst of demand is not sustainable. A lot of people are panic buying to a degree that they can't really afford. In my "cloudy crystal ball", panic buyers who've been spending 2-3x on guns for the past four-five months can't keep buying at this rate for much longer.

My call: be ready to jump on some sweet deals starting in July/August. Before the economy gets so bad that there's risk of social unrest (SHTF), there's going to be a whole lot more people trying to pay the bills and selling off various possessions to do so.

I think the people who are complaining about hoarders are the ones who are trying to hoard themselves, but getting to the stores too late.

Although I would guess that it would be frustrating if the person in front of you just cleared out the shelves of every caliber you wanted to buy.

But hey, if you've got the money to spend and some place to keep it, buy whatever you want. No matter what happens, prices are going up.

How much would pallet of ammo set you back, before this price madness?
Also do you get discount with quantity discount?

Can you imagine lift gate truck backing up to your garage, and wife/girlfriend/family/neighbor asks, "What is that being delivered?" You say, " oh, just some ammo."

This is false. A similar statement about housing was proven wrong in 2006, and this is just as wrong today. Current prices are due to extraordinary and unsustainable demand.

When people who've been hoarding start to sell their stashes to pay the bills and start to compete with retailers, prices will drop.

As for me, when I buy ammo, I buy in BULK. I have purchased 12 and 20 gauge shotshells by the pallet, that is 144 cases at a time, that is 10 boxes of 25 shells per box per case. I also bought several cases of 308 Federal match ammo at a time. Handgun ammo is the same way. I like to buy the ammo in bulk so I can have same lots for each caliber. The other day, I bought 5 cases of SK match ammo, that is 25,000 rouds. Am I in the wrong buying so much? Actually, I almost ran out of the ammo except 22 LR and need to buy more. Again, I will buy in bulk when I have to.

Will I be blamed for ammo hoarding?
              HOLY FUDGE! 25k rounds?

Can you take a picture of that so we can know what 25k of zombie killer potential looks like?

Everyone should go out and buy a .45 GAP. I just went through the entire Acusport website looking for ammo and consistently the only thing in stock is .45 GAP.

I think the guys who think people are buying ammo and don't know what they are doing are wrong. Guys who buy large quantities of ammo buy it because they can afford it and because they will keep it forever. I don't think you are going to see a drop and I don't think you can compare ammo to the housing crisis. Guys will drink less beer a month if it means keeping their guns and ammo.

For 12 and 20 Gauge shotshells, the first time cost me $29 per case, X 144 = $4,176. Second time it cost me $35 per case X 144 = $5,040. Of course, my team had an arrangement with the manufacturer and the price they gave us was pretty much at cost. But the price was keep going up and I didn't buy last time because the price per box went up to $45 per box. Besides, I don't shoot shotgun as much anymore, because I consider myself primarily a rifleman. I used the shotshells mostly to train my 2 sons.

SK 22LR target ammo was the same way. We had some arrangement with the company at the SHOT show and got a great price for the ammo.

My wife understands that when a truck backs up to my garage, I am bringing someting heavy. She understands that I need ammo. Once the garage is stocked, it is a very pretty sight to look at the stacked ammo.

Everytime I walk into Wal mart. I pick up 4 boxes of ammo, if i go there 2 or 3 times a month, thats 12 boxes or 600! Thats not hoarding! Buying everything they have on there shelves... IS!

Get over it. Some people may call this ammo hoarding, it all depends on how other people perceive your actions.

I cannot afford to go buy ammo 2 to 3 times a month. So I may call you a hoarder. It doesn't bother me though, more power to you if you can afford it.

Who cares? Do you care if someone tomorrow is upset that you bought the last xyz model car on the lot?

Crybabies need to let it go and realize they should have stocked up YEARS ago when we were paying 1/3 the price of 5.56 being charged today.

That 1,000 sure won't go very far when/if there is a serious drought on ammo and it's not even scheduled for shipment. I keep way more than that, and have enough components to load 4-5k more of each caliber.

Even if you try to save your brass and reload that 1,000 per caliber you have, you will lose a good percentage of that brass (I always do when shooting on open land), so your round count dwindles pretty quick. Buying a little at a time is fine, but buying in bulk is better. Although, I've never been one to buy much ammo at Walmart, I usually go for higher end stuff in bulk. I did clean Bass Pro out of 10mm Remington a few weeks back though, all 700 rounds. Sorry!

I gotta be honest with everyone here. I can not understand how this is even an issue especially here. We all complain about our firearms rights being infringed upon but yet the question is raised about hoarding ammo. You can do what ever you want and nobody has the right to say anything about it. You you want to fill your spare bedrood with thousands of rounds of ammo and keep it there for fifteen years then so be it. None of my business. If I look for something and it's gone then I look again another time. Also, they are driving the economy is the right direction. I'd rather people hoard ammo then money. Maybe my house will be worth more then a pile of pooh again.

Let's face it we have a shortage of ammo due to the fact that most of production are going to two wars. It's a free market, but you can still voice your opinion thru suggestion boxes. Fill one up and advice Walmart to limit the sales of ammo to __ (fill in a number) boxes per customer. Maybe the state should take the initiative in limiting how many rounds someone can buy at a time, or limit how many total rounds you can keep in your inventory??

I don't think we need more limitations in CA. Are you serious?

Some people just do not understand how much shooting some people do, and think a few thousand rounds is hoarding.

A lot of deer hunters around here think a box of shells a year is a lot. I knew a guy who used to hunt deer up in MI that used the same box of shells for like 5 years. He would shoot one round just to make sure he was still zeroed in, and one round for his yearly deer. He told me this when I related a Saturday shooting excursion to him where I lit off over 500 rounds of CF rifle ammo. He probably had not fired that many rounds his whole life and he was a regular deer and bird hunter.

I know a lot of guys that regularly shoot well in excess of 1000 rounds a month.

Guys that shoot off a box or two a year, just don't understand the logistics involved for those who shoot off 150 rounds in a match that lasts maybe an hour.
