    Ammo Hoarding?

I am seeing several threads that people are complaining about other people hoarding ammo. So, my question is how much should I buy to be reasonable? And how much ammo buying is considered hoarding?

As for me, when I buy ammo, I buy in BULK. I have purchased 12 and 20 gauge shotshells by the pallet, that is 144 cases at a time, that is 10 boxes of 25 shells per box per case. I also bought several cases of 308 Federal match ammo at a time. Handgun ammo is the same way. I like to buy the ammo in bulk so I can have same lots for each caliber. The other day, I bought 5 cases of SK match ammo, that is 25,000 rouds. Am I in the wrong buying so much? Actually, I almost ran out of the ammo except 22 LR and need to buy more. Again, I will buy in bulk when I have to.

Will I be blamed for ammo hoarding?

Hoarding is only for people who didn't stock up when supplies were plentiful.

I am not new to guns, maybe newer to this forum. I have at least 1000 rounds for every gun I own. With the exception of my 870, thats closer to 600!

I dont have thousands of rounds for guns that I want to buy in the next couple years!

I would say having 1000 rounds for each gun you own is perfect, in hallow points, bucks, slugs...etc.

Not in my eyes, do whatever you want, it's your money. People will always find something to complain about.

Probably when the value of your ammo is higher then the value of your guns?

Well-put Saigon! I have always bought as much ammo as I could afford and continue to do so. There is nothing worse than wanting to go shoot, but realizing you are out of ammo. Having an ample supply on hand, based on your shooting habits and needs, just makes sense.

I sometimes teach clients how to shoot handguns, so I keep several thousand rounds of handgun ammo, in various calibers, on hand. I also shoot regularly, as do my employees, for practice and qualification. I "write off" all this ammo as a business expense, as it is.

Smart shooters regularly pick up a few boxes of ammo when out shopping, and buy in quantity when the price is right. You are crazy not to, at least if you like to shoot.

It's still a semi-free country. Buy as much as you feel like.

If you are shooting what you are buying, or shelving it or whatever, I don't really have a problem. If you can afford it and you have enough time on your hands to go through a pallet of shotgun shells, more power to you. We should all be so lucky.

The current spate of panic buying, which has been going on for going on five months now is more than a little aggravating for people like me who enjoy shooting. I like to have at least 500 rounds or so at the ready for my pistols... .380 .38/.357, 9mm, .40, .44 mag and .45 ACP. Then there are rifles and shotguns to be considered. I keep my ammo stock up by rarely leaving a sporting goods store or FFL empty handed. A couple of boxes here and there keeps me where I want to be.

So to keep shooting, and be able to rotate my personal supply, I have to be able to buy. If it ain't on the shelf for me to buy, then I have to stop shooting or end up with no ammo. Since it's in my nature to be both cynical and trenchant when I am negatively affected... well, there you go.

There are, I am sure, more than a few people out there in the world trying to turn a buck by reselling what they can pick up on the cheap at Mal-Wart, maybe not now but down the road a month or two or three. And, certainly, there are people who are simply buying out of panic at the political landscape before us.

Neither one of those situations pleases me... but that's just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth and in the spirit with which I express it.

4 boxes 2-3 times a month! Sounds like hoarding to me. 4 boxes once a month would be cool and not hoarding.

Yeah, there oughta be a law, right?
Or wait, maybe we live in a freeish country, where people can buy what they can afford and desire. And maybe he enjoys shooting a lot. And maybe he just wants to own a lot of ammo. All this talk of hoarding is silly. Hoard some yourself, you'll feel better.
