(09-23-18) Today I tried to access the CA DOJ CFARS system to check on the status of my pending applications and was advised my password had expired.

When I tried to use the password reset link that was sent to my email I was brought back to the login page with no option to reset my password. The header at the top of the form read "The California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) is currently unavailable." Has anyone else had this problem or is the website down?

Lots of people have had that problem. Don't let your password expire if you're waiting for CFARS apps to be processed - it warns you it will expire 2 weeks before it does, and it makes you set a new password every 3 months.

It's a glitch in their website code, it's been that way for months and I doubt it will be fixed any time soon. Some people have had good luck trying it again with a different web browser and/or different computer. If that still fails, contact CFARS support.

DOJ serial numbers are formatted as "FMBUS####". If the serial number is anything besides that, then it isn't DOJ issued.

The wife and I had the same issue a few months ago. While my app took 6 weeks, hers took almost 6 months. About halfway through, our passwords expired. Site kept routing us back to a log in with no way to set new password. Tried for weeks...nothing, sent Email to CADOJ requesting assistance...they never responded. One day I tried yet again and it finally routed us to select new password. No rhyme or reason and nothing you can do but keep trying every few days until it finally works.

That is exactly what is happening to me. I made screen shots of everything I did during the registration process as a backup. I will keep trying and report back later.

i submitted early in the year and got approval a couple months later. submitted for wife in mid June and havent heard anything back yet.

Submitted May 22nd.
Got my final letter September 24th.

Took about three months for my 80% glock frame and I submitted it as a completed handgun. My two rifle receivers were "incomplete" because it didn't have barrel length and caliber, EVEN THOUGH I SUBMITTED THEM AS RECEIVER ONLY! I don't think I need to elaborate on my opinion of DOJ staff in the CFARS self-registration process.
